DuramaxPower 11-10-2005, 10:12 PM Are Macs Performance Clutches not any good or is everyone just wanting the one from SBC? Does any one know what the Single Disk Street and Dual Disk Street from Macs can hold? Or is their somthing that i am missing about these clutches? Thanks

IBDMAX'IN 11-12-2005, 04:30 AM The truth be told that the Mac's performance kit works extremely well and has very little problems with it's design. I have installed a couple of these clutch kits and flywheels and I would say that it's a very nice clutch and flywheel, it's a little more complicated on the installation side due to stacking spacer's but it definently doesn't lack in the performance arena.
Deadeye still uses the Mac's performance clutch and flywheel with great success, I've seen big HP and TQ numbers run through that clutch with no problems. It does squeel a little bit when you take off and due to the nature of the disk material it's pretty grabby but it does exactly what it's supposed to do and that's get power to the ground!!!
The bottom line is either the SBC or the Mac's clutch will give you great performance gains, I think the only thing that was lacking with the Mac's clutch before was customer service and availability and it sounds like that problem has been solved.
Good luck with your search, if have any questions feel free to ask, I'm always willing to help.
Cheers,
Wade
kkhamil23 11-12-2005, 05:51 PM Craig's clutch is well worth it. He went through a rough time that got most people a little PO'd at him. I happened to be one of them but we got things all straightened out and I would be more than happy to recommend him for anyone that would like a clutch. I have Van AAken and PPE Hot +2 Xcelerator on my truck with the single disc and it takes it all in stride. Good luck in whatever kit you decide on.

Can't share with everyone in public?
Deadeye 11-14-2005, 09:04 PM I expect that now that Evan is building them things will go much better. I had some serious issues with my kit previously but I got some help and it is now working pretty well. Things are looking up!
Michigana_Joe2 11-21-2005, 10:32 AM I am running Mac's single disc street w/ Quad 215 and tweaked waste gate. It has held for over 50,000 miles now (once broken in anyway, it did slip when first installed). No problems or complaints here!
DmaxCC6spd 11-21-2005, 07:27 PM Michigana Joe2 - When the clutch slipped initially, did you experience the hard pedal syndrome?
OSUDuramax 11-22-2005, 12:59 AM no hard pedal with this set up. not even if it is slipping.
nick04duramax 11-22-2005, 01:15 AM Did any of you guys running the cpmac dual disc have any vibration problems. I have one in my truck and it vibrates pretty badly until I clutch it going down the road. I don't like this as the truck is built for pulling with 4000 rpm pulls going down the track. I'm worried about my crank or input shaft braking with the vibrations.
OSUDuramax 11-22-2005, 01:27 AM Call me i might have some ideas........
Michigana_Joe2 11-22-2005, 05:39 PM Michigana Joe2 - When the clutch slipped initially, did you experience the hard pedal syndrome?
Nope. Just something about that Kevlar clutch plate (from SBC, so it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself) that made it slip initially, and then grow stronger and stronger for the first 2-3k miles.
Not sure if it had to do with the self-adjust mechanism, or if the clutch plate wasn't totally clean (it certainly appeared clean) or what, but it took a while to hold power. Engagement/pedal position didn't really change much which makes it all the more puzzling.
The pressure plate that CPMac used is pretty stout, so it has moderate pedal effort all the time. It never gets hard like it did stock, but it always takes more effort than a stock clutch.
It will be interesting to see how the kevlar disc works out with the SBC kits. I like it, but I have the feeling that it needs a really strong pressure plate in order to hold. It engages as smoothly as a stock clutch, tolerates full power shifting very well, and has lasted over 50K miles so I can't complain. I don't think that it would hold much more power than I am currently making though as there were a couple of times in 4wd at the drag strip that I thought it might be slipping a tiny bit in 5th gear.
OSUDuramax 11-22-2005, 11:47 PM You said it well Michigana Joe2 .....that is the way they all work and they seem to get better as you run them. Yes it is a very stout pressure plate, pritty much as strong as that type can get. let me know if you expereance any trouble.. they have ben doing very well so far.....
OSUDuramax 11-22-2005, 11:58 PM nick04duramax .. If it stops when you clutch it then it cant be in the flywheel, PP, Or floater. they spin all the time. if it is in the clutch then it would have to be a disk but they are SFI and all...... PM SENT TO YA
nick04duramax 11-23-2005, 12:33 PM Thanks Evan, I'll do some more investigating and let you know what I find out.
westcoaster 11-24-2005, 12:39 AM I also have a Macs single disc for almost a year now.
My Gm dealer installed it for me. They were very skeptical at
first but now they are phoning me wanting to know were other
customers can get one from.
I have nothing but good things to say about this set up.
Yes it does have a liitle noise at idle and is not as smooth of
ingagement as stock but it holds the power so in my mind the
benefits out way the negatives hands down.:blahblah:
Chevyduty84 11-28-2005, 12:00 AM hey evan would your clutch kits work on the ford 6.0 since its the same zf6 speed? or could the current kid be modified to fit a ford?
tazzmayer 12-01-2005, 10:19 AM hey evan,
how does that duel disk puller work out in your tow/work truck? would it be worth buying that over a street duel disk.. if i'm looking to build up a hauling /daily driver and little bit of pulling truck?
Tow truck / Work Stock: 03, LB7, Grey, Ext Cab, L/B, 6spd:driver: 6" procomp lift,18s and 35's...,
Mac's duel disk puller, Hot juice and things....

If I had to answer the question based on my own experiences with the Mac's dual disk puller, I would say absolutely, I would have no problem towing with it or driving back and forth from work. I've driven the dual disk puller clutch and it's pretty hard core but once again, it's my personal opinion on what I would drive.
Cheers,
Wade
CLUTCH BUSTER 12-01-2005, 05:36 PM Evan installed th dual disc puller for me and I think it is well worth the money, and I do everything with this truck, from just driving to hauling my 26000 pound JCB loader around on my 32' GN. I wouldn't change anything if I had it to do over again. My personal opinion, I wouldn't waste my money on anything else!! Go for the good stuff!!!
Good Luck!!:ro)
OSUDuramax 12-03-2005, 01:13 AM I have put about 60,000 miles on dd pullers as my daily drivers and they have been great. they are a little different to get used to but not too bad. i like it because you can do anything at any time and they will hold up. My personal favorite is : Towing my gas puller to a pull on my 25' goose, and unloading it then un-hook the tow truck and win the street diesel class, hook up and go home.
Clutch buster.. I am glad it is working out well, keep in touch....let me know how it does..
Duramax_Farmer 12-04-2005, 04:47 PM Great job at the dyno Sat. Very very nice #'s. It was great seeing the Duramax's having most of the high #'s. Also nice to see another ZF6 out there!
Thanks for the info
Nathan
