Does anyone have experience with these. I'd like brighter headlights. Not the blue headlights that teenagers love. Are Sylvania Silverstar's the way to go or is there a better option.

The only issue I've seen with these is they burn out faster than the oe bulbs. (Or so I've been told)
I've got a customer that swears by the Piaa replacements. But man, for the price of them, I'm not going to try them out...

I have had them in my truck for 2 years now. I like them and they are better than the stock ones.

I had them in my Grand Cherokee. Changed over to PIAA StarWhite bulbs which in my opinion are a much better bulb. They are whiter and brighter. Only downfall is that they are about $25 more than the Silverstar.

Put mine in about 2 weeks ago and I love them! I need to find the part number of the fog lights. I want the SilverStars for them as well. The stock fog lights are really yellow compared to the headlights.

I had the Silver Stars for a couple of years, and I was replacing about three bulbs/year. I won't buy them again.
I switched to Phillips Premium about 1 1/2 years ago, and haven't changed one yet. I'd say they are simular brightness to ST's.
Bought them from Kennedy Diesel:

The silverstars seem to last pretty good in our truck because the headlights are only on at night and the DRL's are seperate.

If you wan't lots of light and stock wattage check out the HIR bulbs. They are very bright. Everyone who rides with me is amazed at how bright they are.

So far I love my Silverstars. I run HIR high-beams, Silverstar low-beams, and Silverstar amber DRL's and turn signals. People do flash their high beams at me a lot, I dont know what it is about the Silverstars that irritate people.

I have to say that is a huge advantage of a lift, no "flashes" from behind

I like mine, but as mentioned by others, the life is pretty short on the low beams. Sylvania on their website give the rated life and it is much shorter than the standard bulb. Even with that I still run them, but may try the phillips or GE equivalent and see if they last any longer. Just put on the silverstar fog lights, a few more watts than factory but again much better light especially to the side of the road.

I had a Silverstar burn out after about 8 months and called them up to complain about the short life and the girl said that their a "High Performance Light" and because of that they will burn out sooner.

I called BS for the price they charge for them, so she sent me 2 new ones after I shipped back the burned up one for "Research purposes".

Also got free amber DRL's out of it too. :)

The Headqusrters is in New Hampshire IIRC

One thing I do now to see if it will help bulb life is to shut the auto lights off when they come on at night before I crank the motor over and then turn them back on after the engine is running. Don't know yet if it makes a diffrence but maybe there is a voltage spike at start up that might shorten bulb life.

I like mine a lot. They have never burned out, but when they do I will buy another set. It is worth it to me.

Has anyone else noticed that the low beams seem a lot more "white" than the high beams do?

DD im pretty sure it "shuts off" the lights and everything before it actually cranks the engine, so everything just gets "turned off" rather than being subjected to a huge voltage spike. Next time you start the truck at night, turn the key to ON, then sloowwwlyyyy turn the key to START. You'll see everything power down (including head lights) and then like another 1/16th of an inch of key "twist" kicks in the starter. Strangly however, the roof marker lamps dont "power down", they just stay on and dim when the starter kicks in. I like it that way tho...it just somehow looks cool like "YEAHHH LOOK HOW THE ROOF LIGHTS DIM CAUSE OF ALL THAT POWER THE BIG DIESEL TAKES TO CRANK IT!! ARR ARR AR!!!" (tim allen grunt). The headlights, radio, climate control, IPC, and a couple other things do actually fully powerdown before the starter engages tho.

Max,

Did you ever have Silverstars? If so, is the light as "white" as the Silverstars or is it just "more light?"

I have them (Silverstars) now and was wondering if the HIRs were worth the upgrade.

I need to find the part number of the fog lights. I want the SilverStars for them as well. The stock fog lights are really yellow compared to the headlights.

The part number for 2005 GMC Sierra fog light replacement bulb is 9145 @ 40 watts. Stock wattage was 37 watts. Just replaced mine day before yesterday. I think the SilverStars are better than stock but much less impresive than my Tenrai Hyper White headlights. Those babies make people move out of your way in a hurry:cool: .
