I know that the whistle doesnt mean more power but im set on making the truck whistle louder. I have AFE 2 and exhaust no cat but i do have a muffler MBRP and also Edge. Will replacing the muffler with a straight pipe help much? If any, where is the resonator or dampener in the intake? or did i take that off with the stock intake?

thanks

you are about as loud as you will get with the LLY

I disagree, I had the exact same setup(Intake, MBRP system,no cat, 4", muffler) as you do now, I cut the muffler out, put in a 2foot piece of pipe and it whistles more, is deeper, and sounds a lot better...try it, and I think you'll like it!

the diesel mufflers are pretty much straight through already.. I wouldn't think it would make that much difference, but you never know.

taking off the black plastic resonator that says "6.6L Duramax" helps a little. not much. i did it so i can see a little more engine.... if you look at the right angle now i can see the word "Garrett"

LOL

It's too bad the MAF is so close to the airbox.
That resonator would be a sweet place to add a filter housing for a CAI from a cowl intake.

why did they switch turbos from IHI to Garrett. What the heck is IHI anyways? I wish I had more whistle too.

From what I have heard....the lack of noise (whistle) is due to the purposeful redirected way the air flows through the turbo housing. I asked the GM garage the exact same question....he told me verbatum..."Dude...you don't even want to go there!" They are honestly DESIGNED to make as little racket as possible. I had a 4 in. straight pipe installed and it gave it a much throatier sound....it sounds pretty cool next to a wall......Hope this helps.

The whistle has more to do with the speed of the compressor spinning.

I just put the muffler delete on my 4" catless exhaust. The whistle is louder, but so is the exhaust tone. It made a huge difference! It is loud, but I like it. The nice part is that the MBRP delete pipe is the same size as the muffler, so removing and installing the muffler is very simple and fast! A silverline muffler is the same length also.

Yeah! I'm down wid dat.

How do the Ford 6.0s manage such a whistle with the "same" turbo?

Different type of turbo that cannot handle nearly as much boost as ours can.

Thanks alot for all of the replies. For now I will order the muffler delete and take of the black plastic on the intake. That Garret gimick on ebay looks funny. i might order it just for kicks. It might be funny to strap that onto a freinds car and whatch them from a distance while they scratch their head in confusion!!! or if it sounds realistic i might put it on the Dmax. I know alot of us love the whistle but from the second i heard a ford whistling down the street i had to get me a turbo diesel. I was a bit disapointed when i learned that i couldnt get her to whine like a ford, but after reading alot on the forum i am very glad i went with the Dmax over the powerstroke.

Does that boost fooler or bleed valve make it any louder?

Thanks alot Chris

I know what you mean about the PSDs. I pulled up behind one with 4" duals (looked like MBRPs) and I was impressed by the whistle coming out of the exhaust. He took off to get onto the interstate and man does that exhaust sing. Truthfully, that's when I decided to replace the stock muffler w/ a 4" MBRP. I get a define low rumble but no whistle... If there is, it's muffled by the new rumble... Don't get me wrong, I like the new rumble but didn't get the whistle I was hoping for.
The whistle that gets my juice pumping is the whistle coming from a semi-truck on the interstate when you drive by them. I'm guessing that most of that "sssshhttt" I hear is fromt he intake side... Someday... Somehow... It may have to be an LLY or LBZ or maybe a different turbo than stock... I shall get my whistle...

Regarding the eBay gismo... It would be more of a joke than anything else. You could even just attach a regular gym coach whistle to your buddy's tail pipe and see what he does...:muahaha:

Have fun...
