I got mine from Summit. It is a 6" round straight-through muffler. Dynomax UltraFlo part #17224 - 3.5 center in/out.

How do you like it?

Had a straight-pipe before and I would say that this is just slightly quieter, but it is still loud. My friends say that when I drive by it sounds like a gasser :( , but up close they said they can tell it's a diesel. I like it. Nice, deep sound...

Try searching Donaldson.com if you want something that flows well yet is quiet. I tried the largest longest round straight thru 4 "Dynomax I could find, the offset was wrong so it didn't fit the stock pipes very well and it had too much "drone" for me. Much louder than my current 4" TTS.

support the Vendors of this site... go to the top of the main page, click on supporting vendors, find one, call them and purchase from there. They will more than likely match price for whatever you can find and you will be supporting the site at the same time.

(this is why they are supporting vendors)

The muffler fit fine, the muffler guy did an awesome welding it in there with some additional 3.5 tubing at an angle.

i didnt really notice a huge difference in sound with a cat back and muffler delete. After deleting the cat it sounded a lo better. But there is not much more you can do to make it louder after removing the cat with a 4" straight pipe and no muffler.

I ordered a muffler from spintech once for a gasser. The have a very strange design, gives the vehicle a soft deep idel and it wakes up fast when you start getting into it and gives the motor a more high reving sound almost. Kinda wierd. They flow like the dickens. They will make a muffler with any inlet/outlet config in stainless or aluminized and they have different "sieries" that are louder or quiter. I called the guy and had it at my door in a week(custome made to fit my otherwise stock 97 Z71 with dual inlet single outlet)

I may put on on my LBZ .

bigjosh, was there any mods needed with that muffler or was it a direct fit?

bigjosh

The muffler guy just cut out the stock muffler, cut some additional tubing at an angle because he could not bend 3.5" pipe (to compensate for the offset of the stock muffler), and welded it all together with the muffler in between. I drew a quick picture....everything in black is what the muffler guy had to do.

hmmmm i can use the 3.5" tubing from my tailpipe to do that since i am putting a tip on it too. the tailpipe is 3.5" right?

do you hear your turbo more with that too??

bigjosh
11-11-2005, 06:45 PM
Yes, but it depends on how much I step on it...light on the pedal not too much (but still louder than stock), hard on the pedal, lots of turbo...

Josh I looked for that muffler on Summit and didn't see it exactly but many that were close. I assume all those mufflers listed are for a gasser cause whenI searched by engine type (6.6L/400) it only showed one muffler and it was a Summit stock replacement muffler.

Bottom line is this.... Is it ok to run a gas muffler on these diesel trucks? will they not flow as well or make my muffler bearings wear out too soon? ;)

Seriously though, will they flow alright and last as long as one designed for a diesel powered vehicle?

A muffler is designed to flow air and reduce noise. I don’t think it matters if it is diesel fumes or gas fumes running thru it.
