how thin was the oil and was it a tad on the clean side..
most diesel oil has kind of a burned "french fry" smell
a strong diesel smell is something to have looked at.

Yes..especially with shell rotella. Our engines have open PCV, some oil odors will enter the cab. *shrugs* Smells like you spilled oil on the exhaust manifold or something.

<DIV>The oil looked normal, it was dark in color, not quite black, and it didn't seem to be any thinner then usual. Engine was not over full, maybe down 1 hash mark on the stick. the oil had about 5000 miles on it.</DIV>
<DIV>I could smell A slight hint of fuel oil while it was draining out of the pan.</DIV>
<DIV>I guess all this talk about fuel in the oil has got me paranoid.</DIV>
<DIV>Maybe I'm worrying needlessley</DIV>

Was the fuel smell from the oil itself or from the engine compartment. A small fuel leak from the engine topside will make a lot of stink but not puddle on the floor.

There will be a faint diesel smell from the soot in the oil. Later! Frank
