I'm getting ready to install my CDX and need to splice the six wires into the radio harnesses. I used a scotchlock to do the vss wire, but I'm thinking I'll solder the cdx wires. I'm not sure there's enough room in the hu area for six of those little boxes. Sooo ........

How do you guys do the solder? The existing wires have insulation all the way up to the pins. Do you remove the wire from the pin, strip, solder and reinsert? If you leave the pin attached, how do you strip the insulation? I have a wire stripper/cutter/crimper, but I'm not sure how you'd strip the insulation while leaving the pin attached.

Just use a "bite-in" connector that is what I used.

I don't know for 100% whats your problem I just strip the insulation off with a knife. I don't use ScotchLocs I would much rather solder.

Strip and solder is my plan... Anyone have pics of how they did it?

No, I won't post the smiley we all grow annoyed by... But a picture is worth a few words.

If you really need a picture I can pull my radio... What I did was strip the insulation off, solder in the CDX wire, then pull the pin out of the radio C2 connector so I could slide a sleeve of shrink wrap tubing over the solder joint and then I heat shrunk it and wrapped it in electrical tape.

Ben- no need to pull your head unit. I asked this because every time I try to strip wire with a knife I end up cutting the wire. I have little enough to work with without making it any shorter. I was just curious if there was some obvious trick I hadn't thought of. Stripping with a knife was the only way I could think of to remove the insulation without pulling off the pin. I'll probably use the scotchlocks.
