Purchased a couple of farm gas and diesel tanks. The diesel tank doesent worry me much it had been used right up until the auction, the gas tank on the other hand has not been used in 2-3 years. The diesel tank I figured on replacing the hose filter and nozzle. Same on the gas but how do go about cleaning the inside out:( . Any advice would be great even if it is to go and buy new tanks, but the ones I have only cost 30 bucks for 2-200 gallon tanks on stands:ro) Thanks

Pull the hose and all off and tip it a bit and try to get all the crud out of the bottom. Maybe tap it on the sides a bit. Shine a light in and see if it looks bad. If there doesn't appear to be anything in it I would just call it good and fill it. As long as it was empty there shouldn't be anything else in there that won't come out the drain...

After you have both of them cleaned out make sure to run a good quality filter on both of them.
I would imagine they are setup for a filter but if not I would highly recommend it.

Yeah that would probably work better for you than using a lighter..... :D

Or you can cut the tank open with a torch to inspect the inside of it. And then when you're done cleaning it, just weld it back up :)

Make sure you fill the tank with water prior to doing this.

Guys do that all the time... The place where our 6000 gallon tank came from, the guy buys tanks and cuts them open, then sandblasts them, washes them, welds the hole shut, then paints it and sells it. He cuts a big hole too, 2 feet so he can get in and check it out and clean it really well. Does a decent job.

On a little tank like yours that was filled with gas before, I wouldn't do it though. Or do like jeli says run water in it first. But it shouldn't take that much cleaning. Previous suggestions should be adequate.
