<DIV>Hi all,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Question about smoking. When I start up my 98 Suburban after it's been setting for the day or over night it lets out a puff of smoke for a second or two on start up. Doesn't smoke when driving or when I rev the engine. Happens when its cold. On those rare warmer days it doesn't smoke. As I'm still a newbie to diesels I'm a little unsure if I should be looking out for something.</DIV>

Sound like unburned diesel to me. Should not be a problem, the fuel charge is just not being burnt completely since the combustion chamber is cold.

Mine works the same, cold engine &amp; raw fuel = smoke that clears pretty quickly after start, don't see it on warm days, has to do with the temp compensation circuit I believe, PCM sees engine is cold and schedules a rich mix if you will for start, fuel cut back to run flow after the start, at least that is the way I think it works, a little more complicated in practice though. extended smoking after engine start could be injection problem or temp sensor input to PCM.
