Sitting in my house listening to my truck warm up, thats a great feeling. Installed my high idle last night in 1 1/2 hours, was really worried about it but it was a walk in the park. I can't explain how happy I am it actually works (not that I had any doubt in anyone). It was the cheapist mod. to my truck and I would say it is the best thing since sliced bread.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif I hope to have it hooked up to my remote start by this weekend, it would be even cooler to show off that way.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif In closing thanks everyone here at this site for answering all of my questions, and a special thanks to Kennedy Diesel for making this simple and very specific directions for the install.

Thanks Again

Great. Now could someone please explain to this newbie what exactly the "high idle" is and what is it's purpose. I am assuming that it increases the idle at start up to help speed up the engine warm up? Good guess?

It is mainly designed to run the PTO, but has the added benefit of warming up the truck faster on cold days since just idling will NOT warm the engine up. It is also good for really cold weather if you have to runinside the store, prevents cylinder washdown and whatnot.

I am new to all this so please be patient. If I install a remote starter on my truck, you are saying that it will Not do any good (like provide a nice warm cab) but rather cause damage with "washdown"? What exactly is wash down?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Diesel engines need a certain temperature to burn all the fuel. When setting idling for long times (10 min or longer) they can't maintain the right temp to burn all that fuel so it starts to run down the cylinder wall.
High idle will rev it up to 1200 rpms keeping just enough temp in there to burn all fuel.

Please do not start truck on a 20F degree day and set it on high idle right away. Let it warm up a few minutes first.
