My UC6 (6 disc indash changer) has a boogered up "TUNE RCL P-TYPE" knob. I have a spare radio and was wondereing if there is a way to remove the knob from the spapre and install onto my existing unit?

the paint started chipping off of my old trucks radio, I jsut wanted the button replaced but they jsut had to replace the entire radio. So, I think from what they told me single buttons are not replacable. Thats just what I remember...

And where are you at in GA...

Have you tried to (carefully) pull it off? I know on the 2002-and older radios all of the knobs would pull off for replacement.

I tried to pull on it, but it didn't seem as if it wanted to come off. I don't want to apply to much force without knowing if it is designed to come off without breaking.

IIRC, someone from here figured out what the part number for the TUNE button was.

Yep, i did it w/ a radio i bought from duramaxdad. The paint was flaking off the knob....Took truck in for some work, and asked them if they could change it, and they did it no sweat...dont know what it took them tho...cant be too much...

I have the same problem with my power/volume knob. The dealer told me it required radio replacement. I have popped it out and reinserted it without breaking anything, but it did take a pretty firm pull and I think it's possible for something to break. Somebody previously posted the part number for the power/volume insert as 12210421. I punched it in to GM Parts Direct and it came up as 'pushbutton', list price $9.82. Maybe if the parts counter looks this one up, the one you need will be right next to it. Then again, Murphy's Law is still in full force.

Clarification on edit: I didn't pull the whole knob off, I popped out just the center insert.

It is replaceable. I popped the entire knob off. I used a flatblade screw driver and pried at the 8 o'clock position until the knob latched into a raised position, I then pried at the 3 o'clock position until that side latched to a raised position, then I pulled it right off.
