.......your local Ferrelgas/Amerigas/etc. stations? I know you can take small loose tanks up there to fill them, but will they fill them once they're mounted on a truck?

If they are automotive tanks they should be able to. You wouldn't be able to bolt down a regular 20lbs BBQ tank and get it filled. At least not around here.

The vertical tanks will have to be removed to fill. The horizontal ones, if they are permanently mounted can be filled in the vehicle. These have a seperate (Acme) fill and also will have bleeder/check valves to indicate when they are full.

I'm not sure how the whole tax thing goes. If it is in the vehicle would there be road tax as a motor fuel? Maybe just sales tax?

If it were at home and near your home LP storage tank (assuming you heat with LP) you may get the delivery guy to lump it in with your home heating fuel...

I'm thinking it's about time to familiarize myself a bit more with the Powershot. I wonder if a N20 filling system could be used to transfer LP???

Around here you have to pay road tax if it is used in a vehicle.

If you heat with propane and you can fill out of it you've got it made.

you can change the valves to an automotive type......they are more expensive ...opd will shut it self off too..doesn't need to be weighed

Most of the people I've talked to around here won't fill a forklift tank if it's mounted in a truck.

Some charge road tax and others just sales tax.

When I filled mine this morning they charged me just sales tax.

I'm curious if they charge road and sales tax, how they report that to the state and or federal tax commission?

The place I went to today just looked at the gallons, figured it up on a calculator with tax, and I paid them. I have a feeling the tax they charged me is just a little bonus for them.

I was told that the price was the same for both on road and off road, by my local supplier. I didn't catch if they add a sales tax onto the motor fuel or if it is included in the other taxes.

I don't run it, but from what I understand, in Texas you pay a road tax fee to the state.. About 85 bucks and they give you a sticker that lasts a year and then you don't pay taxes at the pump station.

When suppliers sell lp as road fuel, the receipt should show as separate items the state road tax, federal road tax, and state sales tax. It seems like it is hard to get them to tell you a total price when you shop. They always say, "such and such plus taxes", rather than give you a total number. Most places that only charge state tax are simply not reporting the sale as road fuel. It saves you money and them hassle. What irritates me is that compressed natural gas doesn't get taxed but propane does, and they are both considered clean air fuels by the EPA.

I have a Manchester RV horizontal tank and they will fill it bolted to the truck, I've never had a problem with them charging me for a road tax here in Colorado.

I reciever fittings from Marc to gravity feed from my bulk tank, It works pretty good, but you have to watch for over fill, I'm not using a vapor return hose, and the other night I had a tank overfill, I ended up with 9.7 gal in a forklift tank, as soon as the sun came out started leaking out the pressure valve.
But, I'm just starting and I'm sure I'll get it down to a science, also my 500 gal bulk tank is 80% full.

Tony, did you weigh it to know you got 9.7 gal in it?

yea, the tank tare weight is 24.0 lb I double checked it, and I ended up with a gross weight of 65.1 lbs, you could tell the tank was saturated by the way it felt when I picked it up, I think I may have burped that tank a couple of times while filling, can't remember for sure.
It only took about 1.5 hours to fill with out a vent hose, I think this is because my bulk tank is so full. I can get the small tank about a foot lower than the bulk tank, we'll see what happens when the bulk tank gets a little lower.
I think you can do with the vaper hose, but like i said my bulk tank is full.

Do you guys not have a relief valve like the ones on a forklift tank? The guys here in Ga (ferrelgas) said it shouldn't take long at all to gravity feed. Also, I found out on my trip from CA to GA that most stations that fill LP don't care about the Tax. I also asked if they would charge tax if I couldn't take my tanks out of my truck. All of the people that filled my tank said they wouldn't care.

about how long did it take you to fill the tank?

I didn't really time it, I just hooked them up and changed them after about an hour and a half to 2 hours, the one I over filed was because I kept burping the spitter valve(small 1/4 npt that unscrews to let vapor out).
I've not been in a hurry because I have several tanks, I just keep them filled.
