I was on my way home from work last night, and happend to look up at my oil pressure gauge... i was ready about 30 PSI. Didnt think that was too healthy, so i pulled over and checked it out. As near as i can tell, its leaking from the front and rear mains? I havent cleaned it off enough to actually look at it. I was wondering if the 6.2's are known for leaking oil on the bottom side at any certain place? Anything else i should be aware of ? Thanks!

I do not think the front main can leak. It is buried deep in the engine. What you may have is a leaking timing chain cover, either the shaft seal or the gasket around the cover.

As to the rear main leaking that is another story. I have replace two, on two different vehicles. I don’t thing the rear main seals were all that wonderful on the 6.2L.

From the sound of your problem, you went from no, or very little, leaking to a major oil spill in a very short time. I would start looking for the cause of the “catastrophic” failure. One thing that comes to mind is a stuck oil pump bypass valve. It is located in the pump. If it sticks in the closed position your oil pressure may have gone through the roof and blown the seals. I had one stick in the open position once and had NO oil pressure.

If you left the oil fill cap off, it can cause that, and would go away if you put it back on.

Next suggestion is the CDR valve, the thing above the alternator. It has two pipes that connect to the intake below the air cleaner, if one of the rubber boots is torn that can cause the problem also.

The crankcase is meant to run under a slight vaccum is that is gone, then it will leak.

Used to test drive 6.2's and take the filler cap off before we left, get back and go, what is that dripping under there.

Hello new person on the list.

Check your breathers like the one on the Oil Filler cap. If they are clogged they will cause pressure build up and will cause your truck to mark its territory.
