Hello I am looking at adding a new exhaust before I add juice, but with all the options and choices I am not sure which one is the best. What do you guys prefer?

Don't know what the best is, and I'm hardly an expert but stainless steel is great if your budget allows it. I went with Bully Dog 4" and the sound can be best described if you get by a big fire truck and listen as it bellows down the street. Installed it ran me around $800. But everytime is hit the 1900-2200 sweet spot all heads are my way if your windows down. Hope this helps my friend

Stainless is nice, but pricey. Aluminized should present no problems. I look at it this way, the inside of the exhaust will be coated w/ soot, and as long as you drive it long enough to boil any moisture buildup out of it, the aluminum pipe shouldn't rust through from the outside. Had a '93 Chevy w/ 6.5TD, sold truck after 9 years and 190,000 miles w/ original aluminized exhaust. Bought an aluminum 4" system from Deisel Performance Parts. Easy install, Sounds nice. L8R

I got ATS duals, no complaints here.

Since you live in Michigan, I think you should REALLY go with some sort of stainless. And since stainless is alot more expensive, that narrow it down quite a bit. IMO, your best choice overall taking price/quality and sound into account, is Magnaflow.

If you want to keep shopping, make sure your choices have at least Mandrel bends and are made of stainless.

The best system that I found for fit and finish would be DPP, hands down. You can get by with aluminum, but they have a sale on T409 stainless right now.

For the money I believe the best compromise between sound and performance is Magnaflow.

I got ATS duals too. They look and sound nice.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Even the Muffler was polished, it was a shame to have to put it under the truck where it couldn't be seen.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Kinda off topic, but I ran into a 02 duramax today that was running dual exhaust. All he did was just whack the muffler off and run pipes coming out under each rear quater panel..The sound was great and had a killer big rig supercharger sound coming out of it. Said he spent $100 on piping and another $75 on welding in case your interested

I like my Banks Monster Exhaust. I was impressed with the ease of install and the exact fit. The hardest part of the install was getting the factory crap out. Of course I choose not to cut it out as suggested and had to drop the spare and take off the shock (may have been easier if I had access to a lift instead of ramps). But after reading several posts and looking at the economics, the Banks system was the way to go. I got mine from Torque and Chrome at a competitive price. I love the sound and looks. Found that the only problem is my foot seems to have gotten heavier with the extra rumble.

Just wondering if any of you are experiencing any sort of drone at any rpm, mostly I'm talking about 55-85 mph had a gasser a few years ago and it had a killer drone that drove me nuts and I put the stock stuff back on. I too am looking for exhaust but certainly without drone. Thanks guys!

I know what you mean about drone, I had it on my 6.0L at about 1800 rpm.

My Dmax with the Magnaflow has zero drone.

ajf82727,

As some of the members here have told you we have a sale on right now on our T-409 systems in both single 4 inch and dual 4 inch systems. All of our systems include a T-304 polished rolled edge tip or tips on the duals, Spiral Flow muffler and T-304 welded hangers where possible. We eliminate all the clamp on hangers that we can as they are not the optimum method for installation. The current sale includes the FLANGE forward pipe that our competition usually charges extra for to by the way, so our system starts up under the firewall instaed of back at the rear of the trans where the 4 bolt exhaust flange is. Call us or any of our distributors if you need any info or visit www.dieselperformanceparts.com (http://www.dieselperformanceparts.com).

The Magnaflow is $400 shipped, how do the others compare as far as price?

Does the DPPI system mount right from the turbo then? Not a bad price at $489.

409 stays polished, 304 dulls quicker, but most systems come with a409 tip, which is all you see anyway. Also told that 304 is stronger , when dealing with high egts.

Um , a lot .... What exactly are you looking for ??

T 409 stainless is widely used in the automotive industry for exhaust componets .... Your stock system is T 409 .... T 409 comes in different finishes and can be brightened up with scotch brite .... T 409 will disscolor and rust ....

T 304 Stainless is a tougher durable grade of stainless and can be pricy do to it's raw material cost and harder to bend chacteristics .... It will not rust and it's finish is more durable and easier to maintain ... It will stain believe it or not when exposed to certain elements but can be buffed to restore it's finish .... The tip on most systems as the Banks is mirror finish 304 .... Banks new muffler is also 304 Stainless ...

It is ashame to bury all that quality material under your truck where it will never be seen ... A full 304 tailpipe(s) would be nice ....

It's your wallet ,both will hold up well on a diesel ...

nassdmax,

None of the systems I have EVER seen start at the turbo, the first piece off turbo is hydraformed and is sort of square in shape, we made some sheet metal ones to see if there was any performance increase or EGT decrease and there wasn't so we left it alone, plus it would have run the cost way up, and installation on that is a major PITA!!

We start up under the firewall at the clamp that you can see if you look up under there, it's about 6 inches up below the floor boards or so. Some of our competitors have this first 4 foot section available as an extra cost option, others do NOT even offer it at all. We found performance and EGT advantages by having this part included in our system as standard. We also include a T-304 polished 5 inch rolled edge tip.

gsxr1216,

The T-409 is also polished, but it will "brown" out over time, ours being polished it will take longer to dull out than the MILL finish others use. T-304 is the BEST stuff, it''s hard to bend creates a lot of scrap and such and it darn expensive raw material wise, in fact there have been 4 T-304 price increases this last 12 months. But it's polished and will stay thay way for a long time, the extra nickel and chromium content is what makes it last corrosion wise as well. You need to pick the ones that's right for you based on where you live and how long you intend to keep the truck. If you keep the truck and live in a tough salt snowy area get the 304, if you trade evey three years get the 409 and save some money.

Call us if we can help you.
