: put on my bug deflector ????
CMC-GMC 02-10-2004, 10:00 PM I installed my AVS vent shade bug diflector on my 04 GMC last week. Now at 70+mph I get a flapping noise from what seems to be the top front winshield seal....
Anyone else?
The shield doesn't move or vibrate when going down the road. And the sound is coming from just above the front window.

Lonewolf867 02-10-2004, 11:26 PM From what I have seen it is the weather stripping at the top of the windshield.
Some guys used either clear or black silicone.

tophog 02-10-2004, 11:28 PM My Lund shield "did" the same thing ...it's now up in the attic and I have yet to try another. I've heard the GM shield does not make noise but no personal experience. I've also read where the fix is to apply a bead of silicone under the window stripping ...others have had success with double-faced tape. Perhaps others will chime in on the shields that don't cause the problem.
Max Power 02-10-2004, 11:43 PM Gm shield does not make any noise.
SteveNorCal 02-11-2004, 12:00 AM Here's my story....
On my previous 03' I purchased a Lund, it made the sound you're referring to and what I found it to be was......
The HOOD HINGE rubber covers!!! The bug shield takes some of the wind off of the windshield and the rubber flap that covers the hood hinge starts flapping like crazy making the noise you're hearing.
When I first heard it, I too thought it was the windshield rubber moulding, NOT. I also tried another brand and it did the same thing.
I never did try buying a GM brand though, but I will for my new 04' D/A baby. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Bronco 02-11-2004, 01:12 AM My bugflector 11 made the bug hitting the window sound also. It also has a tendancy to make the camper style mirror vibrate more. I took it off for a while. The noise went away. Put it back on. This time I cleaned the windsheild and molding with glass cleaner. I then ran a bead of black RTV the legnth of the verticle post inbetween the molding and the glass. I smoothed with a wet finger and you do not even know it is there. Now if I could only get those damn camper style mirrors to quit vibrating at highway speeds. You can not even make out an image.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Edited by: Bronco
Hacksaw 02-11-2004, 07:21 AM Might want to check here for the fix. It is not the hood hinge covers making the noise.

SteveNorCal 02-11-2004, 11:53 AM In my case (Hacksaw) it was the hood hinge covers because I even went so far to tape them down in place and the flapping noise went away. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Chilly 02-11-2004, 01:52 PM I had the same problem wth mine. I put some double sided tape under the A pillar molding and the noise is gone. If you open your doors and pull back the rubber flap you will see torx screws that keep the window molding on. Take those off and it makes it easy to put the tape on the window.

Diesel Dragon 02-11-2004, 04:01 PM Mine was the hood hinge covers too. Right around 65-70 it would start.
speedracer 02-11-2004, 08:12 PM Gotta chime in on the Camper Mirrors Vibrating, sent the drivers side back once because of what a Punk Rocker did, not paying attention walked right into it, but new one shakes at Highway speeds just like the old one. Tried some weatherstripping foam didn't work, Guess I have to live with it, maybe better shocks might help?
Bronco 02-11-2004, 08:50 PM I have shocks and great tires. Mirrors still vibrate.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifHad an aftermarket on my 94- caused the mirrors to vibrate. I think it was a deflectasheild. I haven't noticed any negative effects from my GM one on this truck.
NCMax 02-11-2004, 10:01 PM Amazing.. and I wondered WTH it was that was making all that racket (Lund deflector out front). Now I know... It's threads like this that make this forum a great source for info.
Thanks... I'll be fixing mine soon.

flhrciblueice 02-12-2004, 04:55 AM I have the EGR shield and it causes no flapping noise.

Bronco 02-12-2004, 11:24 AM I need to bite the bullit and ditch my bugflector. If you look at the cut you can tell why it redirects air to an unfavorable location. I always thought the Euro stlying on the 03 Chevy left you with no choice. Sounds like the GM sheild should work with no adverse affects.
Well the new GM deflector is supposed to cure the wind noise vibrating mirror problems, but the parts guy who sold it to me said he wasn't going to guaratee that....
They have reduced the price about 30% so that helps.
john@dps 02-12-2004, 12:45 PM i also have the same noise, i believe mine is the hinge flap. i have the lund stainless steel one and changing the angle helps some and or just changes the sound. however the plastic sheilds dont have any adjustments to make. i would try all of the suggestions above it cant hurt in any way, except your time and misery in having to do it, and facing the fact that on yours it might not work. as we all have dicovered, sometimes one size does not fit all on these trucks.

toolman 03-01-2004, 07:13 PM just put the gm shield on my 04 and no noise or vibration at well over 90 mph on our trip to florida..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
Brow324 10-19-2005, 10:51 AM After experiencing the same thing and trying to diagnose the noise from inside the cab at highway speeds I finally checked this forum and found the bug deflector problem to be the answer. This morning I removed the bug deflector from the hood and drove the 20 miles of freeway to work.
No bug sheild....no noise....problem solved.
Now, if I could only solve the brake/abs warning lights coming on together
for no apparent reason issue, I think I'll be caught up on truck fixes for now.

cruznis300 10-19-2005, 03:56 PM When I bought my GM shield.. there was some 3M weather stripping (not sure if that's the correct name). I had to open the doors, remove the rubber seal and apply this double sided stripping and then put the seal (starts from the bottom of the windshield and runs all the way up to the back of the doors (at the top) back on top. The purpose of this is to stop any time of wind noise that the shield creates. So far so good.. just as quiet as previous to installing the shield.

bullydog 10-20-2005, 12:59 AM Not wantint to take over this thread, but thewad1, how did you paint your door handle. I want to do that to my truck (is even the same color as yours) and was wondering whehter you painted them or bought whole new ones. How much did whatever you did cost you?
I was wanting to get escalade handles as i like them a lot better than all chrome but now I think ill just get them all painted.
