Looking to get rid of these crappy passenger car tires
that G.M. put on my truck, and am considering something
like Nitto Terra Graplers because of the reviews
that these tires have gotten from various sites.
Who's got the best prices, and does anyone have any input
on these tires????? I'm probably keeping the stock rims
for now and am considering either 265's, 285's or 305's.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

I always buy my tires at tirerack.com. They almost always have the best price.

I do not think the sell Nitto tires. I found a web site a couple months ago that had good prices on Nittos but I did not book mark it.

"America's Tire Store" usually has the best price on Nitto's, but you usually have to order them.

Tire prices are negotiable at franchises, so shop around.

I work at a tire store, one thing to consider when buying them is make sure you buy from a place that is going to stand behind there tires and will make it right if you get a bad tire or something. The cheapest price isnt always the best place.

Would a discount tire store charge you more for the install/balance if you bought the tires somewhere else such as online?

Most charge the same if you bought them there or not. You do want to shop around to find the best price. On the average you are looking at about $20 per tire on a truck.

That Chevy Dually looks sweet with that 10 bolt conversion kit and the 19.5" rims and tires. Very Cool...

I am sure it is not cheap though, like you said...!!!!

buying tires online is a bunch of crap...ok ....by the time you pay for shipping and labor putting them on most of the time your over what you can get them locally for....not to mention the guy down the road will rotate and balance for free ......been there done that and not again....oh..not to mention....i got my bfg mt 285/75/16 form the guy down the road for 743 out the door ...online everywhere i seen there 198 each plus shipping or sometime free shipping but you still got to pay to have them put on and ever so often rotated and balanced

I do agree with rickles04 but that only applies to BFG's. They have some kind of funny standard price thing and most places have to sell them at the same price. Then if you them online you have to pay shipping on top of that. You are better off buying BFG's at a local dealer.

I have bought tires from Tire Rack 3 times. The first two times I got 305/70/16 Goodyear MTRs. I paid around $170 a piece + $40 shipping + about $80 for mount and ballance. At the time the best price I could find at local Goodyear dealers was close to $300 a piece.

About 2 months ago I bought Firestone 285/75/16 Destination MTRs from Tire Rack. I paid about $130 a piece + $40 shipping and $80 mounting and ballance. I have not checked how much Firestone sells them for but I think I probably got a better deal.

Oh and most tire shops give you lifetime rotate ballance when you pay for a mount and ballance, not just when you buy tires from them.

But like anything else, if you want to save money you got to do research.

Been buying from tirerack since 94. Hve always gotten a good deal. If Walmart mounts and balances them, rotations are free. I think flat fixes are too, but not sure.

My local tire guy treats me real good, I even get good deals on the BFG AT too.

The 285-16 were $150/ea out-the-door

The 285-17 were $170/ea out-the-door both included tax, mount, balance and full road hazard.

You guys may be a little interested in my tire situation...Last year I got a good set of used Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 285/75/16. About 3 weeks ago when I though winter was hitting hard I started looking for new tires. I decided to try Firestone's Destination MTR's in the same size. At that time the cheapest price I could find was at tirerack.com because the Firestones were on sale. I took that price to my local tire man and his price was actually $2 a tire cheaper or so. So I gave him my business and had him order them. Like I said, that was 3 weeks ago. I was expecting 1 1/2 weeks wait tops when I ordered them. Today he told me it'll be another 2 weeks! Apparently he has these excuses:

1- Firestone has an order for over 7k of these and only has 3k built. None will be released until all are made.

2- Korea and Brazil are the main importers of raw materials for tires. The apparently raised their prices 36% before the end of last year and then another 36% after the 1st of this year. Thats a total of 72% so "all" companies have been slowing production to reduce inventory.

3- Because of the 72% increase, "all" compaines are increasing all prices by 4% starting May 1st. He also says that by July-August there will be a major tire shortage. He says get your tires now!!

What do you guys think of all of this? Is he blowing a bunch of smoke up my a$$?

Thanks, Jason
