: Banks? Edge? Others?
Weedo 11-01-2005, 02:38 PM I spoke with a rep from Banks today about products for the LBZ. He said they're working on them and should have something soon. I asked him about "numbers" and he gave me some examples from the LLY. With the $3,000 6-Gun package (intercooler, exhaust, tuner, etc) he said the LLY went from a 17.53 1/4 mile to a 16.06. He also stated that they run theirs at a much safer level and defule the shift to save the trans.
My question is: I keep reading about the 13, 12, 11 second trucks, and I've been told you don't need much more than a Tuner to get into the 13's. Why wouldn't a total package like the Banks get it into the 13's? To drop another 2.5-3 seconds, you'd need a good 250+ HP (and more TQ). How are others getting to this level "safely"?
Max Power 11-01-2005, 02:42 PM $3000 LOL. You can make an LLY run 14's for under $400.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Banks should change their slogan to Overpriced Underperformer.
ratlover 11-01-2005, 02:42 PM Banks marketing is full of BS is the big one. Number 2 is that you need an aftermarket trans to get to those levels. Number 3 banks marketing is FOS.....oh wait we already went over that:D You also dont need an intercooler FYI to run quick times. The intercooler is typical banks....a good product i'm sure but big $$$ and then backed with inflated claims.
I'm going to move this topic to its correct forum :)
Chevyduty84 11-01-2005, 03:36 PM Six gun= SIX JUNK:ro)
devil 11-01-2005, 04:06 PM If you stay around here long enough you will find most here don't like hype (BANKS). People here like to see hard facts and will buy the products that perform to the marketing. Most here will call BS on a product if it doesn't perform.
ratlover 11-01-2005, 04:07 PM I duno if I would call it junk.....you may have had some bad experiences with it. But alot of guys have em and like them for thier intended purpose. Its just when you start reading banks literature about the most powerfull tuner ect that makes you want to-:t
I guess josh and I et of 16.00 and 15.83 for stock lly 06 was not bad even tho we spooled the turbo up.
Scotty Seelen 11-01-2005, 05:55 PM Banks tested a stock LLY that ran 17.53, now that's slow right there.
DURAtotheMAX 11-01-2005, 07:18 PM 17.53 is really slow for a stock 2004-2005 LLY IMO...I thought the 2004-2005 LLY's ran mid 16's out of the box?

I would take the gift of the new pda off of their hands, though. The remark I made was more or less aimed at Hypertech, as I really don't know how the Superchips performs. The Six-Gun will outperform the Hypertech. Can ANYONE on this site agree with me on that one?

My Banks Six Gun w/PDA arrived yesterday. As soon as I figure out how to program the damn thing I let you all know how it works. :)
chops_are_in 11-02-2005, 05:06 PM Hey, guys. First post on Diesel Place; been lurking for awhile now.
I had Banks install the Power PDA & Big Hoss Bundle w/dual exhaust upgrade for me in Azusa about three weeks ago. I've been playing with it since then, and there are lot's of cool features built into a slick interface. This is my first tuner, so I don't have anything to compare it to. $4K is a pretty penny, but it's performing up to my expectations so far.
With a stock Allison, I haven't been brave enough to play with the individual gear fuel limits, defuel settings for each shift, TCC% lockup fuel limits, etc. that the PDA allows.
Made one boosted launch in SL mode for grins, and the truck will smoke the 35"'s from a standing start. That's all I was really after. I have seen a +1.5MPG increase accross the board on levels 1 or 2. Peak boost so far is 29psi.
I do have a slight "Shhaa, Shhaa" noise and shudder coming from the intake/turbo in Levels 2 thru 4 (haven't run higher settings long enough to notice with them) with 50%-75% throttle. It happens every hundred miles or so. For now, I'm inclined to think it might be the fuel filter (10K on factory filter).
I'll keep you posted in a new thread when I have more experience with it.
ratlover 11-02-2005, 05:17 PM :welcome: Sounds like a lot of nifty features to be had there.
camaroracer 11-02-2005, 05:53 PM $4k????? jesus thats expensive
chops_are_in 11-02-2005, 06:39 PM Well, the $4K did include a rent car for the day because I drove in from Colorado for the installation!
noreaster 11-02-2005, 11:00 PM Did they give you a complimentry 1 gallon bucket of KY to go with that raping?
hdmax 11-03-2005, 12:39 PM For $4,000 I'd get the tranny built then get gages, and the Quad. (OK maybe $4,500!) And it would then out pull, out last, and out perform anything Banks will ever have for the Duramax. And that my friend is a fact we can take to the Bank!
chops_are_in 11-03-2005, 02:36 PM Yeah, I know, the money could have gone further performance wise if spent differently. The features of the Banks PDA are cool, but certainly, I'm not recommending that anyone else follow in my footsteps. I agree that there are less expensive ways of exceeding the perfomance of my truck.
I'm something of an anomoly, a physics major who wears boots, big belt buckles & "Tom Mix" styled silent movie hats. A redneck-geek, if you will. The flexibility of the Palm Tungsten platform was a major selling point for me - as I build my own computers, networks, VPN's, etc. I wanted to be able to download new tuning options from the Internet into the PDA, go slap it in my truck, and play. Time will tell if Banks ever gets to the point of distributing new tunes for the Power PDA via the web, but the option is available. Because I tend to keep my vehicles for 7-10 years, I needed a system that would keep me interested in the possibilities. Banks was the path I chose.
Regardless, others may be considering the Power PDA as an alternative to some of the other tuner box/controller combinations on the market, and hopefully, I'll be able to contribute some valuable info on the performance features of the Power PDA over the next few months.
A full-tilt transmission is next on my list, and it will allow me to explore all of the accelerator pump & "fueling" options for individual gears and shifts the Power PDA makes available over and above the 1-6 & SL modes.
The forums on Diesel Place have already helped me sort out a few "glitches" in the factory design. I would like to be able to give something back to you guys.
Later,
Matt
ratlover 11-03-2005, 02:57 PM Hey, thats what cool about this stuff. Different things are better suited for different people. If you made an informed decision and it suits you then  The deal with banks is that you will find on the forum is that people generaly dont like the co, not so much the product. Its a bit spendy for what you get but for the most part it aint a bad product. People just get rubbed wrong by the way banks over sells with lies and 1/2 truths to most people. Thats why you get alot of animosity outa them......just becasue thier sales and marketing people are so full of BS.
ratlover 11-03-2005, 02:59 PM I know we all want to help. The guy knows he coulda spent less ect. Lets not bust his balls becase of a decision he made. It may not make sense to us but it aint our money and aint our ride.

Scotty Seelen 11-04-2005, 09:09 AM Originally, I was installing the Suncoast III, but at the last minute decided to go all the way with the Suncoast V. The truck will be done in about three hours from now. I can't wait, ah, I guess I'll have to.
