I'm looking to put a deck or patio in my back yard and would love to utilize the space under it for a shop.
Was wondering if any one out there has done this and if any one had any sugestions(how to seal out water and such)

Flat roofed structures usually always have leaks. The other thing is that you would have walking structure on top that would have cracks where seeds and tree crap falls through and will start to grow.

My FIL has a shed under his deck attached to the house. He butted the boards tight together and siliconed the gaps. He is always *****in about the stuff in the cracks and growing. In the shed underneath, he tried to seal it up the best he could, but still got some leakage. He installed plastic ribbed sheeting that you find in Home Depot as a roof. He angled it towards the edges of the shed and lets the water roll into gutters.

If you build it, just have to deal with the water and debris. To ease the leaking issue, use a rubber membrane for the roof. The debris is always going to be an issue.

Good Luck

Your in luck I am a distributor of a under decking system. It hangs under joists like a drop ceiling. But you will have to adress fire safety concerns also. I am taking me test for my irc lisence this week (building inspections) and I will look up that section later to see if there are exceptions to the code.:cool2:

I looked at that option, even called about becoming a distributor but got little if any response. Was also wondering about insalation value, since I would like to heat this area in the winter
