: Larger Intercooler
inverterman 10-30-2005, 11:14 PM As much as I hate the customer service over at Banks Engineering, I am very impressed with the larger intercooler. A lot of folks on this forum claim that larger intercoolers are worthless for horsepower. That may be correct but:
EGT's are much cooler. A lot cooler, like 200 degrees cruising at 65mph, very little boost. (800 old, 600 new)
Sustained power, no defueling under heavy load.
Old EGT under heavy load (20 Boost) 1300, new EGT 1100.
Cools down in 15 seconds to under 400.I consider this something that will prolong the life of the engine.:ro)
Max Power 10-30-2005, 11:18 PM You are experiencing the exact same thing I saw when my pyrometer probe went bad. ;) If it keeps getting cooler check into it.
inverterman 10-30-2005, 11:25 PM Doubtful. The results were instantaneous. I have two pyrometers. I guess that both could be bad. I am a freak when it comes to EGTs.
Max Power 10-31-2005, 09:45 AM Well that eliminates that. I am a bit surprised you are seeing your EGT's that much cooler as a result of lower IAT.
inverterman 11-01-2005, 02:08 AM Me too! I am going to the desert Friday full loaded with Lance camper and 24' Pace Shadow in tow. I will get some more information.
inverterman 01-01-2006, 05:35 AM Maxer,
Been putting some miles on. The average is about 100 degrees cruising on flat land. Underload the difference is significant.
I would entertain new down pipe to improve things better. Maybe even an intake. Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Jim
killerbee 01-01-2006, 08:09 AM Sorry
Raising the flag on this claim. I have tested the Banks IC. Maybe you are a victim of severe placebo flu. Sorry if that sounds offensive, you are the only tester announcing benefits that have no basis in science. The post IC temps are within 10 degrees of each other on my heavy load tests. That doesn't get you 200 degrees lower EGT. Not even a small chance of being off 50%.
What else was done to the vehicle? Exhaust mods? Tuning?
DURAtotheMAX 01-01-2006, 08:28 AM TTS is the only company that makes an aftermarket downpipe for the Dmax...
Killerbee is the expert on LLY cooling!!!

dmaxalliTech 01-01-2006, 12:41 PM I call BS on the claims based ONLY on the fact that the two that I have put in made no such changes.
inverterman 01-01-2006, 07:38 PM So many experts here i guess. No ego here guys i am just a dumb f@#% like everyone else buying this crap. One thing I know for sure is that I do not lie.
THE EGTS ARE LOWER OVERALL PERIOD. If you "scientists" want exact numbers, I do not have the technology to provide it like you "experts".

nothing?
socaldiesel 01-02-2006, 03:04 PM Well not to stir a hornets nest, me arguing with the likes of killerbee or eric is like bringing a knife to a gunfight, well maybe just fists to a gunfight. But on an unscientific level with just an egt probe to go on, I am seeing a similar gain to Inverterman. Got to point out that in his sig he's got the Banks bundle. If he got the same bundle that I did it comes with a new exhaust system too, could be part of the reason. I had mine done all at the same time so I definitely couldn't say which part did more. I didn't do the air filter upgrade though, don't like the thought of oiled filters, especially in dusty conditions.
Come to think of it I also got the Power PDA, is it possible that they program the vvt to provide more air and bring down the egt's that way. Kinda make it look like the intercooler is doing more than it is. I'm not complaining though, it works pretty well, definitely more power.

That''s what I was getting at. We see EGT reduction he is reporting all the time by dumping the exhaust, only. I have a hunch about the cat, but he never said if he deleted it or not. Regardless, it's just a discussion. There was no need to get all upset. IMO.

:exactly:Some folks don't read the signature. Was having a bad day. Sorry guys. I am the REAL expert here. PM me if you need advise or have any more questions:muahaha:

Do you really think there is anyone here who can't read?
You have provided misleading information. It began when you titled this thread. Antogonizing responders is not the way to go.
FWIW, I do believe you have seen the EGT reductions you claim. Just not a result of your chosen thread title. If I thought is was remotely possible, I would support it. Out.
