We tow a fiver with a certified dry weight of 9400 pounds. On grades of six percent in Arizona, the truck slows to thirty miles per hour. Because no trouble codes appear when the truck is on an analyizer, the dealer is at a loss as to what needs to be correctedd. We have towed the trailer on the same grades with the Dodge diesel and its performance was great. The Duramax is a 2003 with 13,000 miles on the odometer. Help!

Fish,
This may sound odd it happend to me how long since last filt change, I had a partially blocked fuel filt truck running empty ran great, hooked up to a 5500 lb GN trailer barely could make 40mph on flat, and on 25mph on grade, I thought it would be okay as it had <5k on the filt, I changed it same trailer loaded total truck, trailer, load 18700 lbs made 75mph flat 60-65 up grade.Edited by: Turbine Doc

I had the same problem with the fuel filter on the 1998 Dodge with Cummins Diesel. I pulling my fiver, east on I-90 through South Dakota. I had had pulled the fiver to Billings Montana a few weeks before, no proble. It had plenty of power running e,pty. Finally got to were I could change the fuel filter, and it pulled great after that. From then on I always carry a fuel filter with me when I travel.

this loss of power thing happenned to me around 3000 miles when pulling my 5r also...it may be just me, however, i feel it never really developed the initial power it had prior to the incident. i mentioned it to the service rep at service time and he said nothing that the computer picked up. i dunno ?
fisherman...kind of coincidental, my 5r weighs in at 9000 alsoEdited by: bob camire
