I ran out of fuel and can not restart. I refueled with 5 gallons of diesel, turned on the ignition and loosened the bleeder on the top of the fuel filter and waited for over a minute. Nothing happenned, I expected diesel to shoot out like a giezer instead nothing. Is the fuel pump pumping with the ignition in the on position( idiot lights in the dash on.) Does any one have any info on how to restart? I'm supposed to be the one towing, not the one getting towed. Please, save me the expense and embarassment of getting towed in to service for running out of fuel.

Sorry that I know what empty means on my fuel gauge

You have to manually pump it.

I'm glad you saw that post and didn't get a tow! My low fuel warning comes on at less than one gallon (needle just under E)! I'll tell you what others told me, 'Don't run it that low because the ECM is fuel cooled.'

I did the same thing, ran out of fuel on the side of the road. Put two gallons in, cracked bleeder and fuel sprayed out. I figured a couple pumps of the primer and we should be all systems go, as that's what the manual indicated. It still wouldn't start so I got it towed in to the dealer, figuring the problem was something else. Apparently it takes a LOT of pumps on the primer (upwards of 100), I wish the manual had said that.
