Skynut 10-26-2005, 04:45 PM Belt dressing. try it you'll like it.
If it works then plan on a new belt sooner or later.
RUSTY1 10-26-2005, 05:26 PM There is a TBS cover this. On mine it was the idler pulley out of line. Dealer adjusted it and installed new belt. That was about 20,000 miles ago and no squeak now

dieseldan723 10-26-2005, 05:29 PM Mine just started doing it now that it's getting colder. It did not squeak at all during the summer. It goes away once it's warmed up. Any ideas? I have heard that belt dressing is not such a good thing to use long term.
Reineke 10-26-2005, 08:48 PM TSB# 3-601-011, you can take that in to the service department, or call before you leave for the place and tell them to do that. Is the squeak constant or just in the cooler mornings?
JhnZ71 10-26-2005, 09:31 PM My truck eats serpentine belts like crazy, I swear im replacing the dumb thing every 8 or 9 thousand miles. They get old start to squeak, usually buy one bottle of belt dressing use it till it runs out then get a new belt. Ive had 4 belts on the truck and its only got 40 k miles on it

Make the dealer put on a gatorback or fix it right. Make sure that you can duplicate the issue to the dealer. Park the truck at the dealer overnight, make them start it up for the first time in the cool morning to hear the issue and let them fix it. If you do a search, it was a big issue. Lots if info in the TSB section, but you have to search back at least a year.
03LB-7dmax 10-27-2005, 08:47 PM Mine does it all the time, no matter what the temp is. Evertime i shut it off it squeak's, does my truck need that gatorback? 60k and never had to change the belt though!!
joakley 10-27-2005, 09:14 PM I had to replace the idler pulley on mine. Still gets an occasional cold chirp but I think its due to dirty pulley grooves and the long run between the crank and the idler.
Reineke 10-27-2005, 10:43 PM Mine squeeks upon shut down as do Ford 6L's. It is just stopping too fast that the accessories cause the squeek. No issue, there. If squeeking at other times, see your dealer if you are under the 100k range. The gatorback is a higher quality belt and has been known to quiet the squeek. I would have the dealer look at it first.
durakirby 10-28-2005, 12:03 AM Hey everyone took my truck to the chevy dealer today and they looked at it and decided that it was the belt the replaced her and the noise is gone now the truck sounds brand new...so if u have a squeak that is always there gettin a 25 dollar belt and changin is worth not have an annoyin squeak...thanks
durakirby 10-28-2005, 12:08 AM Hey i also think maybe when u shut the engine down and it squeaks is cause the engines have a little higher compression and it when it shuts down the fan is still spinin like a banshee then it just slips a little as everything stops
