I finally got my truck straight piped last Friday! I used two short 3.5" 90 degree elbows and a piece of straight pipe. Cost about $60 welded in place. I was very surprised how quiet it was at idle. Have to be listening for it to reconize it. But with my right foot in the oil pan, it gets real loud. Real loud!! Actually sounds very nice. Glad I did it, cause I was going to buy a cat-back first, and then thought, what the heck, just try it and if I dislike it, then buy a cat-back. Now just need a nice tip! Anybody got pics of a tip mounted on the factory pipe? What brand did you find that you like best?

You used 90s? 45s would probably work better for smoothing the exhaust flow.

I originally wanted to use two 45 elbows, but the parts store wanted nearly $50 more for the two then my 90's. So I went with the 90's instead, and saw how it looked on another vehicle (someone posted a pic a while back). I think it's just fine. I didn't plan on any big power gains, I was really just looking for a good sound without spending the $$$.$$ for a system right away.

This is what I'm thinking of for a cheap mod.

I went to NAPA and got a 4' piece of flexable 3 1/2" exhaust tube ($18, $22 w/clamps) and put that in place of the muffler. Works great. Waiting for my new Corsa Cat-Back prototype to come in.

:cool2: I have buddies who are laid off steamfitters currently. They say their gonna build me a exhaust from the catback out of 4" sanitary stainless. When its done I'll post some pictures.

Here are some pictures of my tip on my stock pipe. It's 6"x20" and I got it from xtreme diesel for $90 shipped. I had a straight pipe, but decided to put a muffler back in. I went with the dynomax 17224. It's sounds close to a straight pipe, but it has a very deep tone at low rpm's without all of that rasp that the straight pipe had and it's a little quieter.
