I have a new 06 LLY. Do the truck stop plazas have better diesel prices? Is it OK to fill up with the big trucks? Do they have diesel on the car side? What do you all do?
Thanks

When I can, I fuel at Flying J. The prices are good for the geographic area, the fuel is fresh, and yes, you can get diesel fuel over on the car side.

Is it the same price on the car side? Will they be pissed if my little truck is on the big rig side?

"They" the truck stop won't get pissed..You're buying their product...Now, if a bunch of trucks are trying to get in to get fuel, and your small truck is holding up the works..well, then you might have a pissed off trucker or two to deal with ):h

Use the car side. The truck side often has higher prices and most of the nozzles are too big for a pick up or car.

I Like To Fuel At A Busy Truck Stop. I Know The Fuel Has Not Been Setting Around For A Long Time, And Has The Necessary Additives For The Climate.
Plus I Like The Looks Of Blkmaxx Setting In Between All The Big Rigs.

I have HAD to fill up on th etruck side b/c that's where all the diesel was. The bigger nozzles fit my filler just fine. It filled about 20 gallons in one minute:D.

Yeah, the nozzle will fit fine in our tanks...just don't fill too fast, or it'll overflow all over the side of your truck and on the ground, and you'll look like a diesel nOOb. (Once is all it took for me, hehe.)

I fill at the truck side when I can. I just never top off. It only took once. 2min instead of 10. Not to mention the car side is usually being blocked by some moron in a POS that is running in and waiting in line for 15min to buy $5 worth of gasoline. That and a few times truckers have come up to me really impressed with my "rig".

The filler neck on your truck is designed to accept the commercial nozzle. Also, that big nozzle will pump seven gallons in the same amount of time the automotive nozzle will pump one gallon.

When unloaded I fill up on the car side, when I have my travel trailer hooked up I use the truck pumps. I've timed a 23 gal fillup in one minute exact.

Yeah, it fills REALLY fast, but it's still a pain in teH bUtt that you can't pay at the pump... Censored

If you do use the Big Rig side, one thing to remmber if you have to go inside to pay is to mover your truck out of the way so the rigs behind you can start filling up whileyou go in to pay. What pisses the truckers off is the folks that dont and then go in gettheir sodas, chips maybe something to from the sub shop and what not taking 15 to 20 mins before coming back out.

I used both and yes it only takes about 1 mins to put in 20 or so gallons, remmber them big rigs are taking on 250 to 500 gallons so them pumps pump it out fast.

 Why can't you pay at the pump?? I pay at the pump with my credit card all the time. swipe, pump and drive off (all in about 90 seconds).

I forgot about that. The truck side usually has longer handled squeegies. Helpful for midgets like me. I could never get the middle of my company f-250. Makes life easier and my windshield cleaner.

What kind of MPG are you getting with your new 06 Duramax?

I get 17.5 average 50% around town and 50% hiway driving. It is a regular cab 2WD. I have it loaded with utility tool boxes , utility cap and tools as an A/C service truck. The added weight is about 1500 LBS and is in the truck all the time. I do try not to step on it too often - but it is hard to resist. Around town I usually put it in the tow haul mode, so I can hear it and use the turbo brake.

I've never been able to pay at the pump (on the big rig side) with my personal credit card. Seems that the card swipes only accept fleet cards...

Same experience here. There is a diesel truck stop type station in this area where the car pump area has no diesel pumps, and the truck area will not accept mastercard/visa type cards. The truck pumps seem to be a good 500 feet from the cashier. Especially inconvenient in winter. I just go elsewhere.

...and I find that sometimes (some Flying J and others) the price on the big rig side is higher than on the RV or car side. Not sure why...
