Has anyone towed with the 2006 lbz motor yet? I need to buy another truck since my gmc 2004.5 has an overheating problem. If the 2006 still has the problem I have no choice but to buy a Dodge.

I highly highly doubt the LBZ will have overheating problems. Im pretty sure the 2006 LLY has the problems FIXED as well.

Just completed a 2300 mile round trip to Florida pulling a 28' Airstream, temps topped in the low nineties with very high humidity in Florida and Georgia. Fan never came on, coolant temp was never over 215. Tranny was at 170.

This is great news. I really like the truck but I need something to tow my 33' fifth wheel. Thanks for the info.

At a dealership, they had a 2005 duramax next to a 2006 duramax. The allison transmission cooler was twice the size. NO JOKE! It was twice the size. The dealer tried to sell me the 2005, I said you can keep those overheating trucks!! I then went and ordered a 2006 LBZ. The cooling system has been enlarged on the 2006!! GM finally after 5 years figured out there is a problem and decided to fix it!!!!

Thanks for the input. If there is anyone else that has the lbz , Please give me your opinion on your truck. I am taking my time on buy this next truck. I was hoping I didn't have to buy the dodge diesel. Its a great truck but I just don't want to down grade to it. The mega cab is nice on the truck but the bed only comes in short bed. The engine noise is a lot louder and less power.

harleyman2...

Your welcome! This forum has helped me in the past. I am happy that I have some important input to give back. Lord knows the dealerships lie in order to get a sale!

They have done alot of home work and changes to the LBZ to have it overheat. I think if anyone was having issues with this and towing that it would already be posted here for everyone else to read.

There is no problem with the LB7, so how did it take 5 years? The LLY is less then 2 years old, and the problem is fixed. So it took them about 18 months! Oh I forgot, 18 months equals 5 years:eek:

Yea, you hit the nail on the head.....a lot of people complain about GM and overstate the scope of the issues. My '05 LLY had no problems, and I towed in many situations with high air temps. So yes the LLy's from '04.5 to '05 were more prone to the overheating issue, but most of them performed well!

How is what HDMAX said sarcastic? 18 months is not 5 years, is it?

I'm thinking the over heating problem has been taken care of. Can't say for sure untill summer returns but we should be OK.

I am soooooo sorry! The guy stated that the Duramax has had an over heating problem since it came out in the summer of 2000. And that is not true to say the least! If you can't deal with it, then

Hey,

I wonder how many buy backs GM had with the LLY overheating issues?

Take care,
