: Tornado Air Management System
DIESEL 5 02-07-2004, 01:19 PM Check it out guys,
<DIV class=PartTitle>Product Information</DIV>
By installing a Tornado air management system under your hood you can get up to 24% better gas mileage and gain up to 20 more horsepower. Tornado is a stainless steel air channeling device that creates a swirling air motion in your engine. The continuously whirling air moves faster and more efficiently through your engine. This means you get better fuel atomization, increased mileage and performance.
Is this true or a bunch of BS?
I am going to put three of them in a row so I can gain 60HP http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Kartattack 02-07-2004, 01:51 PM I vote BS.
McRat 02-07-2004, 02:56 PM Tornados have shown great improvements...
In the bank accounts of the sellers, but no where else. Most new vehicles lose HP with them.
bartman 02-07-2004, 03:26 PM if the box has stickers, those stickers are worth 10hp each!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif

How about if I stick it in the tail pipes, can I get a contrail effect like an F-16 jet.

Oh sh*t! You just gave them a new marketing campaign!Edited by: Bronco
JohnnyO 02-07-2004, 06:24 PM SCAM
It's just a twist on all the other fuel saving SCAMS of the 80's when gas was scarce. It's right up there with magnets that put all the fuel atoms in alignment.
Let's think about their statements.
Works like a jet engine. How do you turn pistons into a turbine?
Causes air to go around corners. Any corners in your intake? It's round curves.
Atomizes the air? Oh! It breaks down the the air into it's individual components? Wow Fermi lab is probably going to buy a few of these.
And as far as breaking up the air flow. That contradictory to all laws of physics. You want the straightest, least obstructed path. Don't you want to get as much air as possible into the cylinder... You buy special free flow filter and pipes for big $$$$ to get the least resistance to air flow, then you put a Tornado restriction in the way if the air path.
In the words of Barnum P Bailey "There's a sucker born every minute".
Sorry, If I sound so negative. But I hope I can save you from spending money on this rip off.Edited by: JohnnyO

DIESEL 5 02-08-2004, 12:37 AM No !
Mine are going to spin counterclockwise
its totaly different http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
Bronco 02-08-2004, 01:34 AM If for some reason these things did create a vacum/pressure?, any positive effect would be counteracted by the blockage of airflow and also the mechanical drag. At best you would be in a zero net gain situation. Edited by: Bronco
Max Power 02-08-2004, 02:01 AM They really do work! I tested one out and shaved 3 seconds off my 1/4 mile time! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

DIESEL 5 02-08-2004, 02:56 AM Well I decided to put them on my tail pipes, guess what they work. It seems like as the blades are turning they create this dotted effect, kinda wierd. Turbo spools much faster too http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

pepperidge 02-08-2004, 11:16 AM Funny, I heard changing the air in your tires gave much better improvement in fuel economy and power than these gadgets.
Pepperidge
Searay90 02-08-2004, 07:27 PM No no no........ you don't change the air in your tires, you remove it all with a vaccum pump and then fill them back up with heliumhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif That way your truck is "lighter on its toes". The reduced weight allows quicker 1/4 mile times, and you get a real neat tire squeel now that the tires are breathing helium...... they sound like donald duck when you do a burn out
socaldmax 02-08-2004, 07:54 PM FredW is not gonna be very happy with you for sharing his secret which gives him 25mpg and almost 1,000ft-lbs of torque.
Not happy at all.....
Mike L. 02-08-2004, 09:12 PM I tested a couple 5 years ago. I put one on my truck(GMC 4x4 sb 5.7) and a friends. It did not lose horsepower on either truck. (sotp test). I cut my finger putting it on, i cursed them. I bought a third one to put on my wifes Lexus LS 400 and when i pulled the air cleaner tube off to install it, i found that Lexus had built one of these things in to the system (plastic) already. Imagine that. Go figure. Are these guys really full of it or what? By the way, my wifes Lexus hauls ass.

rickles04 02-09-2004, 03:39 PM hey now....i got one... i now get 38 hp and 8mpg better.....but i got the gold plated one....they told me that it had a ionic field around it and it was like 2 turbos....works great

Interesting... Seems putting them in your pipes, you're breaking the exhaust gasses down into its molecular components. Seeing as how you're out in Cali - the governator should give you some sort of rebate for being eco-friendly...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
