Is this the LBZ Turbocharger - GM P/N 98003366 ?

Does anyone know how I can buy one? Anyone with contacts at Garrett or GM, I need your help ASAP.

I want to test this turbo on an LLY in the next 10 days.

email me at McRat@fuzzydiceracing.com or PM me.

McRat--- because the LBZ turbo probably has different size vanes/number of vanes/etc.. wont the LLY ECM have trouble controlling the vanes in it?

Don't give him any ideas... I've already welded my intake manifold in place.
I'm gonna have to tack the turbo as well?

What ever happened to the 24 hour test drive that they offered a while back? That would have been plenty of time to test drive the new turbo!

Haha if it does work just put your turbo on the new truck and take it back and not tell them:muahaha:

Mcrat.....I am sure you may have already thought about this but maybe a Chevy/GMC parts counter? It maybe a premium price though. Also......enterprise engine out of ohio or Eric or the crank it up diesel boys maybe able to chime in here.....

My local Enterprise car rental shop rents out the Duramax. They may or may not have some 06s in yet.

I only talked to one dealer, but they said they didn't show any as being available.

I looked at 2 06's the LLY had a #890003360 turbo on it. The LBZ had a #8980033661 on it. Hope this helps!

RichLockyer

That is very interesting... what's the number for the 04/05 LLY? I can't imagine they would have three different turbos...

nassdmax
10-24-2005, 09:12 AM
The numbers quoted are the Izusu format. Strip the first and last off of this and you have the P/N 98003366. This is a valid part number in the service parts system and carrys a dealer price tag of $1279. Don't know if they are available though. LMK if you need me to find out.

So if Isuzu lists a different number and GM lists the same #, are they the same? LBZ and 06 LLY?

What is the part # of the 05 LLY?

Dmax Tim
10-24-2005, 10:20 AM
Wonder if any of the SPOs have them so we could get our discount?

nassdmax
10-24-2005, 10:37 AM
Everyone knows the GM/izusu numbering scheme in the parts ordering world, so there really are not any questions. The parts are the same.

The 2005 had a different number, but I didn't commit that one to a printout. I wanted to be sure that there was a definite change for the 2006.

As for SPO...There is no stock avail in Michigan for ordering. Just checked.

Yeah, I had a feeling they would not have any on the shelf. Might need an "inside source" to get my mittens on one.

10-24-2005, 11:04 AM
From what I have been told the only difference in the LBZ turbo was a material upgrade to handle higher heat than the 04/05 LLY unit. The new material allowed Garrett to also improve the wing design in the turbine section. It would make sense that the old units were discontinued and only the new units sold in the future.

nassdmax
10-24-2005, 11:23 AM
There was not a note about superceding the previous released parts. Could mean some level of non-interchangability??

McRat, I tried getting some help from the guy I was put in touch with at Garrett - but he said it's all hands on deck preparing for SEMA.

He said he would hook me up with engineering info for the new ball bearing unit for the LB7 around Nov. 10.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Have you contacted Garrett directly? They do have an aftermarket group. Try every extension you can!

After seeing the 1/4 mile times for that 06 lly, looks like the 06 lly most likely has the new turbo. Looks like it will be tough to come by, but should be worth the effort. Good luck!

McRat have you found out if the "new" LLY turbo is more efficent at higher boost levels? Our "old" LLY turbos lose it after 32 PSI or so...it'd be nice to get ~36 or so PSI out of this new turbo...

So that's what you'll get if you have an 06 LBZ and the charger goes on you. Either an LLY turbo or no stock.

They probably need a year to get it (parts and updated info) together.

It might be the right one. GM goes nuts with P/N's and since the engine is only a couple of weeks old, not all the data is available everywhere.

I can buy Dodge turbos all day long, for cheap! Why? Nobody wants them. :D

PS - You can get the LS7 427ci 505HP Vette motor right now! Cheaper, more powerful, and lighter than the Viper engine.

The P/N that you were shipped is the service part. The P/N that we were finding earlier is the one that is on the engine. The service part is released for all LBZ/LLYs built for 2006+

Pat, E-mail me and I'll send you a present that you may find interesting!

BIG THANKS!!! You know who you are.

And double thanks to Clyde at West Coast Diesel for driving to a dealer's lot last night and verifying the P/N's on a new truck. Clyde is hardcore!

The second PN is the right one. The first one is already obsolete, and they are interchangeable. Have the right charger, just need some gaskets, and Casper becomes the first 2005.9 LLY in existence! :D

Boy thats a true statement right there. I tried last year to get turbo data from Garrett, talked to engineers on the phone even in a few locations. They weren't talking about it, not a specific thing at all, and a couple even told me if they told me and it was found out they would LOSE THEIR JOB.

They are under a strict non-disclosure with GM.
