Greetings!

I am a new owner of a used 2002 crew cab. What an awesome truck! I have a problem with the interior lighting, all (courtesy and overhead) will flicker on and off at irregular intervals while driving down the road. Irritating, to say the least, especially at night. I can hear the breaker (fuse) resetting itself (clicking) while the flickering is going on, and I have pulled the breaker to disable this. I think that the override button and switch are ok, could I have a door switch that is shorting? Help!!

sounds like door switch. But could be a shorted wire anywhere. Turn the dome light override button on and see if they still come on. If they still come on it might be a short somewhere. GM has a live wire at all dome lights all the time and uses the ground to turn them on. So if a ground wire to one of the lights was shorting out it would turn on all the lights. This would not be overriden by the the override button.

Maybe check by the e/brake assemble.I have seen alot of strange things come from shorted wires there.

Had a customer tell me the other day when e/brake is set right rear window would roll down!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Thank you , guys, for the suggestions. Max Power, I have tried the override, no effect. The overhead light and courtesy lights flash at the same time, your tip on the constant hot wire to the dome light proves useful to me, and I will "run" the wires looking for a short. I have already looked at the parking brake and fuse panel areas, they have no visible short indications. I am trying to figure out how to get the door panels off so I can get to the switches there. Any suggestions?

It most likely won't be in the door where your problem is. If it was, the dome light override switch could be the problem.

You are aware that the dash light dimmer switch turns on the interior lights when all the way to the top, correct?

Could be a bad headlight switch or BCM module as well.

Thanks. That should save me a lot of hassle. I have noticed that the previous owner had put in a cell phone antenna, which was removed prior to my purchase. I will start with the overhead, and hope that maybe a wire was nicked during that installation. Headlight switch and dimmer "roll" switch seem to be functioning ok. Thank you for your advice!

Forgot to ask, what is a bcm module?

body control module. Mounted below the steering column.

Finally think that I have got it!! I have run every inch of the loom, and have taken apart the BCM. I took out the headlight switch module and cleaned out the goop in there, and found evidence of electrical "tracking" on the contacts. I reassembled it and have had no "flickering" as of yet! Thanks, guys, for the tips! This really is an awesome truck, and I am now much more familiar with the mechanical aspects!
