I have a question, maybe someone can answer. I keep hearing the reason the Diesel is going up so fast is because of the demand on home heating fuel oil. Well in my part of the country about 99% of the people heat their homes with Propane or Natural Gas. At the truck stop were I fill up Propane is $1.75 a gallon plus motor fuel tax. Am I in the dark or is there a lot of people that still heat their homes with fuel oil? By the way Diesel is from $3.05 to $3.20 a gallon around here depending were you buy it.

The entire East coast and into the much of the midwest heats with fuel oil. I just changed to propane 5 years ago or so.

There feeding the public a bunch of BS.

A lot of the homes around here in the suburbs heat with Oil but a lot of the bigger city's don't and where you are they don't either.

So the oil companies will tell us any BS any chance they get so they can raise prices.

How do you think Exxon/Mobil made 26 BILLION DOLLAR PROFIT last year. Thats right the #1 Most Profitable company in the country last year.

They did it by rapeing the middle class.

34 gallon tank. $3.09 a gallon at Super Wally, the lowest price around here that I know of. Don't know what regular gas was.

Around here, all prices are starting to head back up - #2 is consistently staying .50 -.55 above gasoline, though.

I agree that the home heating oil excuse they (speculators) use is a lot of bunk - along with all the other "supply fears" they dream up. I swear it's always something. :blahblah:

Prices around here are starting to go back up for Gas and Diesel. The biggest thing I noticed aroung Houston was how much more diesel cost than gas when at a station in an afluent part of town or right on the freeway. When you were in a avg part of town and a block or 2 off of the freeway Diesel was about the same as premium gas.....roughly 20 cents more than 87. Not too bad in my book. I just wish it would all get a little cheaper. I never heard anymore about the heads of oil companies having to go answer to congress about their record profits after such major disasters. I wish I could find out. Anyone here know anything?

To an extent the oil/gas operators ARE fleecing America and have been doing it for many years. There are a lot of other factors involved. They've been able to get away with it because the excuse used was that they are funneling the mass majority of profits back into developing alternative energy. However, no one has really held them accountable to prove that and to what degree. Having to answer for the profits during natural disaster is easy. Cost of producing wells in the Gulf of Mexico has doubled due to increased insurance costs and the service companies having to raise rates due to demand and we feel this at the pump. This can be expected but what hurts the most is the lack of refineries to handle the increasing work load (America is behind) and limited rig and lift boat availability. The rig count in the Gulf of Mexico has skyrocketed in the last 5 yrs due to new exploration and production technology. We can now start producing old adandoned wells that were not producing before and find new reservoirs and actually access them when we couldnt before. This is all in a nutshell because it is much more complicated than that.

Nah, that was just a bunch of toothless posturing by Congress. We're headed into an election year, y'know.

Supposedly large SUV sales are back up due to "lower fuel prices". Never mind they're still $1/gallon above where they were a year ago.

Welcome to "Short-Term Memory Theater".

Well, my memory isn't what it used to be, but my spreadsheet says I was paying about $0.40 a gallon less for diesel this time last year and I heard announced on NPR this morning that the National average for gasoline is $0.34 a gallon more than this time last year.

It wasn't more than 6 months ago that I was paying about 80 cents a gallon less for diesel than reg gas up here. Now I'm paying about 60 cents a gallon more for diesel than reg 87 octane gas - and nobody up here uses heating oil. It's 100% natural gas or propane or wood. Censored

Hmm in wyoming it is 2.26 a gallon with premium at 2.19 also they are creating a bio deisel made from under ground coal that should show some decrease in prices. Also the reason for the current diesel spike is due to most refineries putting out more premium fuel then deisel for profit reasons there is a mad shortage for diesel in states with no refineries at all. The coal diesel that I talked about it is estimated that there is enough coal in the us that of they convert it all successfully will out way all the oil fields in the entire world. However eco freaks are standing in the way of some of it due to its take on the land. But the coal mines are already there so it should not be to much longer before we show a decrease to get our fuel back to a dollar again. As paul harvey said there is light at the end of the tunnell.

Hey stop complaining and do something about it! I too got tired of the $$$ I paid in the past $3.99/gal up in the northeast. Feed up with it I am now producing my own bio-diesel about 0.70/gal. Yes thats right 70/cents now I did make an investment in the equipment and setting up but I can produce 40/gals a pop (24/hrs) and figure it will take about 15-20 runs to break even for my investment. And I can even apply for tax break at end of the year for being enviromentaly friendly and get back more $$$$. Bio-Solutions Louisville,KY

First of all shut the hell up!

Secondly if President Bush was and "oil man" we wouldnt be paying $2.64ish a gallon. we would be paying about 5 cents per gallon.

And just another side note. Over in Iraq its 5 cents per gallon...next time, before you open your mouth do some thinking.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Just filled up @ $2.55 - stung a little.

As far as our prices - folks, I've been around the world & to 3 county fairs ove the last 20 yrs. Prices at the pump in the U.S. are still much cheaper than most of the world - that is a fact - wouldn't matter who was in the White House. Most of it boils down to supply & demand - Us americans do like our fuel burning trucks!!!

Currently 2.39 in SW Missouri. A lot better than the 3.12 in got up to here.

I've been to Venezuela 3 times in the last 4 years. Last year it was about .20 US per gallon.

It's been several years since I've been to Europe, but that last time I was there it was 4-5 times what it was in the US.

That's how they make their money, not by giving it away.

How soon do we forget, ALL fuel prices WERE over $3.00 a gallon a few months ago and they are just starting to go back down. Price of fuel will never go down below $2.00 a gallon or to where they were B4 Katrina hit. The government did not want to raise taxes for the people to pay for the damages caused by the hurricanes, so they went a different route.. RAISE fuel prices..

Just a point of reference.

You noticed Venezuela's price too didn't you?

I spent a few months in Venezuela there this year, and fuel was about $0.25 per gallon. The other thing that I noticed was that there are a LOT of hot women down there! What a country! Cheap fuel for your truck and gorgeous women everywhere. Beers were only like $0.25, too!

But seriously, the price of diesel is controlled by supply and demand. It's not like there is a big knob at the oil company's office that says 'price of gas,' and they just turn it up.

Decreased refining capacity (supply) from the storms coupled with the increase in demand for heating oil in the winter has driven up the price.

If the "oil men" are all about making money...why does all of the money we spend on fuel go to the middle eastern region??
And if the "oil men" are all about making money, why did they allow everyone to run on dye when katrina hit? why not keep the prices up and when some poor soul fills his diesel up with dye, charge his ass $10,000!...to make more money of course!??

$2.60 a gallon here

Last time I filled up with Diesel it was $2.45 a gallon, it has been creeping up since and now it's at $2.69 a gallon, is there another hurricane coming to the United States? or could it be because Stanley "Tookie" Williams was EXECUTED? ):h ):h ):h
