Hey all,

Can my truck have some type of a high idle mode installed through the redundant controls on the steering wheel like the Dodge? If not, does my truck even have one? I checked my manuals but I could not locate anything useful but it is mentioned in the little supplemental book the provide with the Dmax.

Is it an LB7 or an LLY?

For LLY, go here.........http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17853

For LB7, go here........http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=951

For both, they are controlled through the cruise control buttons.

There is a high idle option through the buttons on the steering wheel. If you do not have that option there is another way to do it, but I do not recall how.

That's only if you have an LLY and it only comes on when the temp is below 32F. The other links are for high idle anytime, but it requires adding a wire and tapping into another...pretty simple though.

I have the 2005 lly I Set mine on last march so can't remember off the top of my head how. I Can look in the manual if you need. I think you press the gass pedal 3 times and it's all set if the temp goes downHey all,

He said if he could get something installed like through the steering wheel on a dodge you can also. So he has got the steering wheel controls.

He also said that theres some mention of it in one of his supplement books. He appearantly has an LLY then, UNLESS the 04 lb7s share the same manual as an 04 lly.

If you do have an lly you will have an automatic high idle which will only work though (according to book when the temperature is at or below 32 degree F. Mine has come on many times when it is warmer than that too though. It will shut on and off, keeping the temperature over a certain level.

You can turn the function and and off through your steering wheel controls. Trucks that dont ahve the steering wheel controls (to the best of my knowledge) DO NOT have the factory installed high idle. On your steering wheel controls select the one that lets you customize your vehicle settings (of the four "sets" of buttons it is the bottom right set; and the top button from that set (the arrow button is underneath it).
Then when you get to the "Elevated Idle", push your arrow button until it says "On". Then press to button corresponding to whichever function you were displaying on your DIC prior to turning your high idle on.

If this is too confusing ask any questions you may have. Hope this helps.

I think there is a "back door" method of enableing the high-idle on non-DIC equipped trucks. Something to the extent of turning the key on, putting truck in neutral, stomping on the gas pedal 3 times, running around the truck, standing on your head etc... The exact procedure is in the manual IIRC.

For LLY:

Elevated Idle/Exhaust Restrictor
The engine has a cold temperature high idle and exhaust
restrictor feature which elevates the engines idle speed
from 680 to 1200 rpms, and restricts the exhaust gas
flow, when outside temperatures are below 32°F (0°C),
and the engine coolant temperature is below
150°F (65°C.) This feature enhances heater performance
by raising the engine coolant temperature faster.
This feature can be turned off and on using the DIC
steering wheel control buttons. If your vehicle is
not equipped with the DIC steering wheel control
buttons, do the following to turn on this feature:
1. Turn the ignition to RUN, with the vehicle off.
2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold
while quickly pressing the brake pedal three times
in less than eight seconds.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine.
When the engine is started, it will slowly ramp up to
the high idle speed after a delay of a few seconds up to
approximately two minutes. For this method to work
properly there must be no throttle or brake pedal faults.
The engine idle speed will return to normal once the
following conditions are met:
• Once engine coolant temperature reaches150°F (65°C).
• Air intake temperature reaches 32°F (0°C).
The high idle speed will be temporarily interrupted and
the engine speed will return to normal if any of the
following conditions occur:
• The brake pedal is applied.
• The accelerator pedal is pressed.
• The automatic transmission is shifted outof PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).
• The clutch pedal on the manual transmission is pressed.
• Vehicle speed is detected.
Once these inputs are removed, the engine idle speed
will slowly ramp back up to high idle after the normal
delay, if the conditions for engine coolant temperature
and air intake temperature are still met.

I assume he is talking about a high idle feature whenever he wants it, not only when it is 32 degrees outside.

Is there any other place to tap into the brake pedal wire, besides in the cab...Id like not to stick another wire thru my fire wall because I stupidly drilled the hole small and If I want to fit more wires thru, ill have to pull all the wires out and redrill it... Under the fuse block is there a brake wire?

Yeah you can get it under the cover for the under hood fuse panel. Same color but you will have to do some probing around with a DMM. Not sure exactly where it is.

And its +12 volts hot when the brake is NOT pressed? Or when the brake is pressed?

when it is not pressed. It goes to 0v when the brake is pushed.
