: 7000 Mile Mobil 1 Truck & SUV Oil Analysis
Crew Cab Dude 10-19-2005, 05:22 PM 30000 miles on vehicle. First test on synthetic. Had Delo 400 in it before changeout. Test results from sample includes single oil filter (Baldwin) and no top off of oil (was about ½ quart low on dip stick). Summer driving including 4 or 5 trips with 7000# trailer (1 trip to Northern CA Mtns @ 6000 ft). Any comments welcome.

The only problem is that for the past month or so I been looking for it, but I can't find it anywhere. Every place that used to have carries every kind of Mobil exept that one, anyone else notice that?
Lennox69 10-19-2005, 11:09 PM i'm glad you guys are having good result with mobil 1 ,,,,,i have not,i notice a slight constant ticking like valves,so i went with rotella syn and it stoped...i still use mobil in my gas engines,but for some reason my duramax does not like it.

BigdaddyG 10-20-2005, 12:47 AM I'm no expert but that looks like a good UOA. The TBN is still high and soot looks good too. I run Truck/SUV myself but have never done a UOA. I usually go 5 to 6,000 miles with a Mobil 1 filter. I hope mine is doing as well!

WalMart (in both N. and So. Cal) now carries it in 5 quart jugs.

I am having the same problem every store in town is sold out. I even bought out wally worlds last 9 quarts. I dont even have enough to change my oil.

TBN looks real good. I think you could let the oil change system run it's course and go by the DIC. My truck has never taken the full 10 quarts, even with filter change, which I do every time.

I've been using this oil in my truck since it was brand new and have had great luck with it. About $95.00 for 4 gallon case in my neck of the woods.

But this Mobil Truck and SUV Syn. has the same ratings as the Delvac 1.
My wally world has it in 5 quart plastic containers for $19.xx. each. That takes my oil changes down to $40. in oil VS almost $60. for the 4 quart Delvac 1.
I have to special order the Delvac from my local O'Riellys part store. I always have the 1/2 gallon sitting around from the 4 quart containers.
After I use up the rest of the case of Delvac 1 I'm going to the Truck and SUV syn.

At $7 a gallon, your not running what Boxer is. He is running Devac1 full synthetic. If you can find Delvac1 for under $20.00 a gallon buy all they have and sell it here.
You are probably running Mobil Delvac 1500 (or is it 1400) Dino oil.

mannytranny 10-20-2005, 01:55 PM This has been discussed at length at the Tdiclub. M1 T&SUV is what we all use in the TDIs.
It was determined (both through a lot of oil analyses and calls to Mobil) that this is the same oil as Delvac 1. It is just repackaged for the consumer.
If you want to see a bunch of guys that are anal about their oils, take a look over there. OMG.

The Mobil Delvac 1 and Truck and SUV will be 5W40 vs 15W40. They do give extended change capability and a much heftier cost per quart. I'll be changing oil soon and for cold weather I was planning on trying a charge of the Truck and SUV, but I can't seem to find much of it. I may have to go back to my old standard for cold weather, Rotella-T 5W40 semi-syn.

I take mine out to 10k, but almost all my driving is highway. 70 mile round trip all about 4 miles are highway.
I change ALL my spin on filters, oil, fuel, Allison and rotate tires at 10k.
Nice round number, easy to remember.
Even at that, I usally have 20% or so left on my "oil life remaining". Which is set up for Dino oil.

In a cold climate the 5-40 will be easier to start. Thats about it.
I run it year round, the pressure is a bit lower than 15-40 but no problems.

The Delvac 1 is CI-4 Plus rated while the Mobil Truck and SUV is not. However the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV oil works plenty well.

Good catch on the CI-4 Plus rating. I compaired the 2 and blew off the "Plus" rating.

ExxonMobil announced that four of its heavy-duty diesel engine oils have met the new CI-4 Plus specification of the American Petroleum Institute (API).
The company's Exxon XD-3 Elite 15W-40, Exxon XD-3 Extra 15W-40, Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40, and Mobil Delvac 15W-40 all meet the API CI-4 Plus specification.
A modification of API's CI-4 standard, originally released in October 2002, CI-4 Plus licensed lubricants are required to deliver improved soot handling and shear stability performance in all engines. These improvements enable engine oils licensed under this specification to better withstand the severity of the latest low-emission engines. The CI-4 Plus standard took effect Sept 1, 2004.

RichLockyer 11-08-2005, 10:02 PM I did one change at 1800 with Rotella-T dino and M1-303 filter, then switched to M1 oil at 5k.
I put my Tundra on M1 at 3k and ran it 125k, never burned a drop.
I'm pretty sure the rings are well seated by 2k... if you buy the claim that rings won't seat properly with synth (I don't). Used to be you'd run 30wt non-detergent to break in because detergent oils would prevent proper ring seating (ya, right).
Vettes and many other vehicles have synth from the factory.
Tsckey 11-09-2005, 01:18 PM I switched to Delvac 1 (now Truck and SUV) at 2,200 miles. Evidently, that was long enough breakin. Truck is not an oil burner, well, not crankcase oil anyway, and shows no other signs it was not ready for the primo stuff.

InTentsDmax 11-09-2005, 06:07 PM My analysis just came back using the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV. with 7,525 miles on the oil and 82,000 on the truck. With the exception of Calcium (2354 vs.2263) my numbers were all lower than Crew Cab Dude's, but my TBN was only 2.37 !!! I'm glad that I changed ot out and didn't just change filters like I was thinking about doing. 80% of the 7500 miles was towing. Note from AV lube indicated to change oil & filters, TBN is low and indicates additive depletion. Wear and contaminant levels appear normal.
