Is anyone using a Pop and Lock to lock their tailgate? Do they work well? Do you recommend them?

Thanks for the Help!!!

BradBub,

Nice Rig you got there......Mine's the same but Black.

I purchased from J.P.Customs a factory Looking Tailgate lock for my truck. It replaces the factory black plastic trimpiece on the tailgate and has a hole in it for the lock mechanism.
It has a keyed lock & works very well. The installation is simple too - 15 minutes if I did it again but I was really slow & careful about not scrathing paint & the cold hereabouts.
It really looks like a Factory installation......

The only problem that I have had was this morning when I opened the tailgate to show a friend, naturally! The black trim popped off!!!!
The trim piece (factory & replacement) both fit in the same way, the bottom has 2 plastic pins that fit into holes on the inside of the access hole. The top is held in w/ 2 more plastic pieces that are are pushed in to fit & they have lips that catch @ the top of the access hole for the tailgate trim.
Well, apparently the top does'nt fit tight enough. I'll have to try some double sided tape or something to make it fit tighter.
It could be that the cold here has a lot to do w/ it but I used wife's hair blower & I picked a 40+ degree day,(unusual) this year to do the install.

It really is a nice kit if you can keep it on the truck!
Cost $35.00 & J.P. Customs is listed in the Vendors section.
I think I'll write him & ask for his advice.

Good luck, Paul

Paul,

No, but I do sell a few here and there with the Retrax's I sell.

I've never heard a complaint, but there is always a first time.

Retrax also sells another lock called a Gate Guard. a little more than 1/2 the price of the bully or popnlock
No key is required. It disables the latch actuator via removing the top bolt in the triangular pattern of the tailgate and replacing it with a low profile t handle and an aluminum bar to place inside the tailgate. just turn the handle and it is locked (provided you have a locking cover). All any of these contraptions do is keep an honest man honest.
Best way I could see to keep a covered or uncovered bed or tailgate protected is to use a locking hasp or two screw eyes (one in bed post support and the other in the tailgate with a lock{uncovered} or a snap hook [covered&locked]) JMHO
