Does the Yukon Xl 6.0 have more hp and tq than a pickup 2500HD 6.0?

Hey Grady....

Good talking to ya the other night.....

Are you looking at boosting the HP in your 6.0 instead of getting the 8.1?

Might not be a bad idea considering the oil usage and mileage issues of the 8.1....

Hey Blinky....

I ended up going with the 6.0 with the 4.10 gears. I drove both and really liked the higher hp on the 6.0 over the 8.1!

I read somewhere that the Yukon Xl with the 6.0 has more Hp and Tq than the same engine in the 1500 and 2500HD.

I haven't hooked the trailer up yet but so far just cruising in the 6.0 is awesome!

Thanks Tim.

Do you all think 360 torque and 4.10 gears is enough to get 10000lbs rolling and keep it rolling?

Is there any way to increase the torque on a 6.0L?

The hp is obviously tremendous on a 6.0L.

10,000 pounds would be quite a bit for the 6.0L IMHO. I would pull it but it wouldn't be as enjoyable as doing it with the Duramax.

hi grady

You can get a little more hp's out of it by exhaust, headers, diablo chips, and air intake kits. should give you a little more and not to much money involved w/ additions. or you could go all out and supercharge. And yes I agree there needs to be a site for the 6.0 and 8.1's.

I really liked my 2001 6.0 2500HD, great for the short haul. Fun to drive empty. Had to have the DMax for the milage benefit while towing the fifth wheel. 6.0 had no problem moving the trailer until you got to a long grade. It would bee nice to have the Allison as an option with the 6.0. Honestly this tranny makes the truck....

If you want real hp outta your 6.0.....go get a Westers Tuned ECM. Trust me, it willl wake the beast inside!!

I believe the Allison paired with the 6.0 wouldn't be as good as you think. That Allison takes a LOT of power to turn. At one time I saw a chart with the % lost on each tranny. It listed the old Hydra-matics, powerglides, and up through the Allison, all of them! The Allison had an extremely HIGH % power loss.

IMO, the 4L80E, 4.10, and the 6.0 are a real nice package.

I've had the 6.0 with steel heads. HP was right @ 300 and TQ was 360. It did pretty well towing and so,so on fuel. The best MPG ever was just over 17MPG on a 300 mile trip. My AVG. MPG was 11.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif The "added" HP came from the Al heads in 2001. In the Denali they just kicked in better programs for more power.

Everyone I have spoken with that has the 6.0 with a 4:10 rear gets poor MPG. Yes they will pull some heavy weight....but, they'll really suck some fuel! The 8.1 would really be the better choice for anything over 8,000 lbs. My wife has a 2001 LT Burb that has an 8.1 and 4:10 gears. She gets around 10-14 MPG, she has a lead foot. I think the motor does pretty well. Ours will eat about 1 quart every 5 or 6k or 1/2 quart between oil changes. The motor is rated somewhere around 345HP and 460TQ, I think.

To answer your first question........ The Denali has better programs. So, Yes it does have more power than a HD 6.0.

I have a Westers tune on my 6.0L and it is a much better performer all around compared to stock. This thing will get a load moving and keep it going. I agree that it would probably would not be the ideal choice for consitent towing applications though. The 6.0L to tend to use more gas when pulling a trailer or when loaded down in general, but I have always been between 10&12 mpg when towing depending on speed and wether the A/C is running....
