: My Duramax sounds like a Powerstroke

Lately under acceleration my Duramax sounds like my old Powerstroke. At idle it sounds fine and at cruise it sounds OK. I have 14000 miles on the truck. I have the Attitude and have tried it on different levels but makes no difference. I have noticed no loss in power. Should I be worried. Do I need to remove my Juice and head off to the dealer. Thanks for any advice.

That's normal after about 2500 rpm. That's when the pilot injection shuts off. Pilot injection is what makes it quiet. I cannot do PI over 2500 rpm.

I notice with the Juice I get inermittant clatter at certain rpms before she gets to operating temp (cold mornings)

What if it sounds like that at lower RPM's (1700+)?

It is at low rpm's when I notice it the most. When I take off from a stop under heavy acceleration it is loudest and then quiets down.

I notice mine frequently on the highway when I hit an incline, I"ll leave it in 6th gear and can hear the rattle.. Also when accelerating up to speed, under light/medium acceleration. Doesn't matter what gear you're in, the engine just has to be under load. It's not a bad sound, just an audible diesel rattle that seems uncharacteristic of the dmax. Perhaps the intake/exhaust amplifies engine noise and it's just the normal noise.. Anyone else notice this?

I've never found a real noticeable change in engine pitch from 2500+ RPM under heavy acceleration, although I'm sure it's there, the exhaust drones out the engine at those RPM's.

I have the attitude and have noticed this on cold morning. I usually run around in level 5 and when the truck sits and cools down it will make a louder diesel rattle until warmed up. I usually back down to level 1 and it is much less noticable......don't know why but on mine it is related to juice level....timing?.........fueling?.......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif

goes away when up to temp.

403, the cold rattle with the Edge is timing. The Edge will not admit extra fueling until the coolant temperature gets up, but has advanced the timing all the time. I run my regular Edge v4.61 at level 4 all the time and get the short rattle just before upshift until the engine warms up.

If it sounds like A 7.3 don't worry about it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I've come to find out mine does the same thing and was worried for a while. I had come up with the same idea Hoot had, and as long as it is agreeable I can stop worring about it. Also as long as your truck doesn't run like a Powerstroke, I wouldn't worry about it!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
