: Security Light?

Yesterday, I noticed that after I started my truck the security light (little icon of a lock) stayed on for a few seconds then went dim, but not out. Same thing happens when I shut it off. Key in or out doesn't matter. Locked from the door button or remote doesn't matter.

Any ideas?

The truck is a 2003, CC/SB D/A 2500.

My biggest concern is that one day the truck is going to decide I'm trying to steal it and refuse to co-operate with me. I'm afraid to take it to a dealer for something electronic like this - they might just start replacing computers until it's fixed and hand me the bill for all of them...

Thanks,
Steve

I can't help you with a answer for the light problem as I have a similar situation once in a while and havent found the answer yet. Could be ignition switch, could be BCM, could be Security module, could be the wiring in between any of them.

But what I can tell you about a no start is that if you try to start the truck and the security light is flashing while cranking and with key on the truck will not start, all you can do is wait 10-15 minutes till computer resets and then try to restart. It's happened to me a few times.

If your still under warranty bring it back to dealer.

Well, out of warranty by about 3k miles.

Is this a common problem? I don't mind taking it to the dealer to get it fixed, I just don't want to pay for their learning curve on a problem they've never seen before.

When you say the ignition switch, are you talking about the switch on the column where the key goes in?

Any chance that disconnecting the batteries and letting everything die would reset the problem? Make it worse?

Thanks for you help.

My 01 1/2 Ton had this issue and it was the ignition wiring harness... there is an update for them, and a soldering fix if you are up to the challenge. It is too complex for my wanting to deal with, so i bought the wiring. It cost me about 200 for it to fix. Careful, eventually the key wont be recognized, and will not start... i would just wait 10 min or so, and it would start... Good Luck

Andy, do you have any more info on the fix? I'm fairly handy electrically, so I might give it a try.

Otherwise, I might end up calling the dealer. Can I argue that the ignition switch is part of the 100k engine warranty? If it's $200 for the harnes, just imagine what they will charge me to install it...

Thanks,
Steve
