what was the HP and torque ratings on the 6.2 engines? I am wondering about an engine that was installed in a 3/4 ton suburban?

What is typical miles on a 6.2 engine before it required major repairs / overhaul?

THanks

thanks for the reply on the miles ran. Do you know the stats on HP and torque?

More then likely your engine will be a J code. although engine power ratings seem to varly slightly year to year, they are all pretty close together. heres what I know for 1985 models.
C code:130HP@3500 RPM and 240lb/ft torque @2000 RPM
J code:148HP@3500 RPM and 246lb/ft torque @2000 RPM
G truck series(chevy van type) 145HP@3600RPM and 248lb/ft torque @2000 RPM

If you want to check what engine and be sure of it check the 8th digit of the vin code, its going to be C or J. or check the RPO code list in glovebox. also take the aircleaner cover off and check to see if its a plain intake or has the EGR there. EGR was on C codes only.

Is there some marking on a 6.2 so you tell which block you have? I know about the vin number but what about on the block itself?

Thanks

As far as I know, it doesnt matter what block you have. what made it the J code was the HD emissons equipment= the non egr intake manifold and IP.

you can take a C code engine, swap the intake manifold and IP with a J code manifold and IP and esentially have a true J code engine. thats all it really took to give you that +18HP and +6lb/ft of torque. I beleive both engines still had the butterfly in the exhaust manifold.

it says "trucks over 8500lbs GVWR had the HD emissons engine".(J code "LH6") which is why light duty 3/4 ton trucks-1/2 ton trucks came with C code "LL4" engines. exempt was military blazers which also had J code engines.

it also says, of interest, that the C-J code power ratings in C/K/P(box vans/motorhomes/FC chassis/school bus) style trucks represent a 10% increase of HP and 2.5% increase in torque. while the G style trucks represent a 7% increase of HP and 3% increase of torque.

I do think i read during the new built engines(1990 something), heads where changed at a time? i could be mistaken.

the J code IP had increased fuel rate I believe.

Ive never seen a list of numbers to tell, but maybe someone has? I dont think it will make a difference anyways.
