TheBac 10-10-2005, 09:59 PM I was just searching around Ebay and found this Ipod interface:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8001405230
I figured someone in DieselPlaceLand may be interested in it.
AndrewFessler 10-10-2005, 10:55 PM I like that kind, was a bit more expensive than what I neded up with.

uReside 10-12-2005, 04:17 AM when you have a gm touch screen navigation unit, can anyone post a picture of what the unit looks like when the ipod is in use? does it show anything special? name of artist? song?
aldricsohn 10-21-2005, 06:23 AM so is there any draw back to the axxess in comparison to the usa spec?
SmoknDmax 10-21-2005, 07:04 AM so is there any draw back to the axxess in comparison to the usa spec?
Some things others have noted as draw backs with Axxess unit:
1. The Ipod display is disabled and constantly says " Ready to Disconnect"
2. Ipod control buttons are disabled so you can only play songs assigned to a playlist, and you can only use the vehicle controls to control the Ipod (including steering wheel controls)
3. Unit advertises an aux input, but the cable isn't available on the market yet.
Disadvantages of USA Spec unit:
1. Song Title, Artist are not displayed on Radio (Axxess unit is able to do this)
I'm sure there are other quirks between the two, but these seem to be items that most people have mentioned.
I have the Axxess unit and it works good, but there are times I wish I could use the Ipod controls to scroll thru a playlist to get to a specific song.
aldricsohn 10-21-2005, 10:52 AM I had a pioneer head unit with the ipod interface. Normally, the ipod was disabled and it functioned through the head unit as youve described the axxess. But sometimes if I hook it up in certain sequences it seemed to allow me to use the ipod to scroll, etc...
I'm not sure how exactly I was able to do it. I think I would turn the ipod on first and play it and then plug it into the head unit. Has anyone with an axxess tried this with any success? Thanks.
robabner 10-21-2005, 01:02 PM I guess I want the best of both worlds. I want the radio controls to work as well as the IPOD and to have a seperate aux input for portable DVD. Does this exist yet?

You get what you desire with the USASpec unit. What you don't get is the artist, song title display on the radio display.
The question about hooking it up while it is playing vs. not doesn't seem to matter. I have done it both ways with the Axxess unit and it always assumes control of the IPod and disables the IPod controls and display.
robabner 10-21-2005, 02:32 PM I want that to just forgot to put it in there. I dont understand why they cant have both work and display.
DMax in Alaska 11-09-2005, 10:01 PM I was just searching around Ebay and found this Ipod interface:
I figured someone in DieselPlaceLand may be interested in it.
I just had an idea and am going to try it. If you have the DVD Entertainment System, you should be able to plug in with a "Y" cord and play through that. I have hooked up my Mini-DV Camera and it works and sounds great. I am sure the iPod will be no different.
The FM transmitter gadget is a POS. I am using the Cassette Adapter (Maxell) in my Cavalier and it sounds as if the CD were in. The adapter made by Belkin is a POS and cost about $5 more. Its going back as well as the FM Transmitter.
powerco02 11-09-2005, 10:24 PM I have the Axxess ipod interface, it is a pain to go to song 350 out of 1000 songs. Sometimes when I get frustrated I unplug the ipod pick the song plug it back in and go from there. You can still seek after this. I still do not think they hove the perfect interface.

Something I just read was that you CAN NOT have the OEM radio head with the built-in disc changer and use/install the iPod interfaces that are sold on Crutchfields.
Tamale 11-10-2005, 10:04 AM So if I hook up a DVD player to the USA spec unit I could watch DVD's on my radio. I have a Nav unit or will have.
Marty G 11-11-2005, 10:21 AM What DMax in Alaska brought up is the question that I have.
How do you know if your OEM radio head unit is compatible with any of these Ipod interfaces?
I have a 2005 2500HD with the 6sp. I can't remenber if the XM satellite/CD changer was an option that I could get, and if the head unit can't handle this then the applications charts for most of the ipod interfaces say they won't work.
Is there any way of being able to tell if my radio head unit is okay by looking at the options in the glove box?
DURAtotheMAX 11-11-2005, 10:27 AM Yes, XM is an option for trucks with the front bench seat. 6-disc changer radio is not an option. You can only get that with the Bose stereo. As long as you have the CD-player or CD/tap player radio, the ipod interface will work. It will NOT work with the base-model AM/FM ONLY radio.

Well,it works...if you have the DVD RSE System, your iPod will work thru it and it sounds great. $15 for the "Y" cord is all it cost. I plugged it into the RCA jacks, hit the black button to activate the system with the head unit, selected RSE on the head unit and Wallah, beautiful music from the iPod. It is nice to have it plugged in like that because you can actually pass the iPod around the cab like a Hookah Pipe if you wanted to do so. Plus...it is $100 cheaper then the interface.
weldergc 11-12-2005, 05:22 PM The e-bay system does not work on a 2002. Right now I use a FM transmitter plugged in to lighter and brodcast through radio. It works pretty well, although it takes up a space on the lighter bank and does not charge the battery, It was only $35 at Costco.
powerco02 11-19-2005, 05:40 PM I have the Axxess and a standard GM radio with built in six disc and xm radio. When you hold the No. 6 preset in XM mode it toggles between xm and ipod. XM 1 gives you song lists 1-6 and XM 2 gives you 7-12. Hold preset 1 and you get all songs in order by title and hold 2 and it will toggle between random.
