Ok so were do they mount the box for OnJunk. I am getting a truck with it and I don't want it. I know where the XM is and thats coming out too.. Anyone know?

Its right above the XM module. Kinda directly behind the passenger side SRS inflator module (airbag). It has two coax cables going into it, one plug is blue IIRC. It also says Motorola somewhere on the sticker. And probably has an ESN also on the sticker. You cant miss it. Im curious as to why are you bothering taking it out? Since you paid the extra $$ for it, why not just use the free year of service that comes with it and then after that, just dont reactivate it. To me, even if you dont want OnStar or XM, its hardly worth the trouble of removing the darn things. To remove the OnStar VCIM, the whole dash has to come off, as well as the passenger side airbag inflator...

yeah why would you want to decrease resale value by removing things just dont pay for the subscriptions.

Keep in mind, if you get into an accident, it will automatically call for help even if you are incapacitated and tell them where you are. Should you lock the keys in your truck, it will unlock the truck immediately. Should your engine or trans start acting strange, it can do some limited diagnostics for you.

I use mine as a "hands-free" phone, and like it.

The service is free the first year, is it not?

Because I don't want it. I don't need big brother looking into my truck anytime they feel like it. I am removing the stock radio about 10 mins after I get the truck off the lot so OnStar will not work... I am just disconnecting it so GM can not get into the truck. I will leave the modules there just unplug them.

unplugging them will not keep big brother from whatching you! there is still a black box that moniters your speed and driving habits!........good luck.

You have a black box in your truck that record data concerning airbag deployment. Police have used this data to convict people of vehicular homocide.

And don't forget about all the satelites watching you too.

And I heard big brother is not busy this weekend so he secretly installed a video camera in the truck to watch you too.

I heard the microphone is inside the drivers side air bag!

Even if you don't have a subscription to onstar it will come on. On my brother's truck he bought used they swore it was disabled and not activated. After installing the different stereo into it I hit the button to see if it still muted the radio. It did, and started to say onstar. I shut it off and we got out.. Walked off and heard something in the truck. A woman at onstar was asking if we had an accident and was about to send the police out. Told her no and we popped the hood and pulled the onstar fuse, I think it was the info fuse. Look in your manual, it tells what fuses do what in the back.

I specifically told my buddy at the dealership when he was trying to find a truck that I might buy that I wouldn't get one with onstar or XM since the first thing I would do is slap my pioneer stereo into it. Same thing we did with my brother's truck, but since it was used with everything he wanted except that damn onstar we just pulled it's fuse.

Ok everyone...I can gaurantee that OnStar has NO CAPABILITY of relaying speed data and stuff like that. You are not being watched by OnStar. You are just being paranoid. The EDR (event data recorder) is "watching" you much more than OnStar. If you are rerally worried about being tracked, worry about the EDR. But you cant remove it because it will disable the SRS airbags and a bunch of other stuff. And it will most likely throw codes up the wazoo.

And if you are reallly really paranoid, just pull the INFO fuse. There. Done. No more OnStar. Then if you ever sell the truck, just pop the fuse back in and get an extra 500 dollars or so in resale value because it has OnStar.

---Ben

sorry to come off like an a$$...It just seems like so much effort to completely "remove" the OnStar VCIM when you can just pull the info fuse and be done with it.

michael nelson

but they will know you pulled the fuse and send up the black hawk helicopters....right?

Thats what I was looking for. I could careless if the unit is still there..

Oh and for your info yes they can track speed. They can track anything the computer is putting out. It is a fully connected unit that can upload info when requested.

So you guys with programmers don't think GM could not find out you have them. If they are questioning it they can...

soon as you pull the fuse or disable the ONSTAR in any way, GM is notified and your automatically put on a suspected power module user list. Your also listed in the police databases as a probable speeder since GM can no longer get any speed info. Sorry, once you have a veichle with ON STAR the only thing you can do is leave it alone or you will raise all sorts of alarms.

How much $$$ do you back that gaurantee with? Would you guarantee that they can't? How much are ya backing this with?

Ok everyone...I can gaurantee that OnStar has NO CAPABILITY of relaying speed data and stuff like that.

So if they can control your door locks, tell if your airbags went off, read your trouble codes, and TRACK YOUR VEHICLE (pinpoint it actually), that means they can't tell if you're speeding????

Bwaaaaaaaaahahahahaha, that's a good one. I'll take you up on that gaurantee. :funnypost:funnypost

Hmm so now my brother tells me that he accidently pushed the button on the steering wheel and it came on again, even though we pulled the info fuse. Why? We tried after we pulled the fuse pushing the buttons on the mirror and it would not work, but then it did once the other day from the steering wheel. Very strange.

The truck is a 2004 lly, ls trim, bose stereo, replaced the headunit with a pioneer. Except for bose and onstar, same truck as mine.

I've got the Pioneer AVIC-D1 plus the Pioneer XM/Nav-Traffic unit.
It took two "adapters" to get everything working... one for the steering wheel controls (PGM doesn't work and SOURCE only works "up"), and another adapter to integrate the HU with Bose and OnStar.

Even with that, I do not have the door/headlight/seatbelt alarms (yahoo!!!), but OnStar does not "play" with the key off.

If I hit the steering wheel button with the key off, then turn the key on, the radio is muted, and eventually I well hear "OnStar Ready"... so the system works "normally", but the Pioneer only outputs audio when the key is on. Since the alarms and OnStar play through the HU.....

Rich-We used the adapter that hooked to the bose and stuff, didn't bother with the one for the controls for the radio. We can reach it fine. ;) I just want to know why the onstar still comes on with the info fuse pulled. Not all the time either, just once so far... Might have to just find the unit and disconnect all the plugs on it.
