I have heard the question ask and I have ask it myself. Which one is better? Well at this point in the game I believe that they are all good and adding a second filter is a good thing. It really doesn't matter if it is pre or post oem.

So I put together a small list of filter kits and prices for the guys like me that cannot make up their mind.

Mike,
I am on a WEBTV puter for the winter & can't
post pics.I had the bracket bent up out of 1/4" aluminum at a welding shop.

Lonewolf867-good work dude! It's nice to see a variedy of set ups and a list of features and pricing for them. One thing to add, the Mega element is a Baldwin BF 7635. There's also one more filter I've seen mentioned a time or two called the Vormax. I'll look into it...

For the KevTech setup, I believe the replacement 0750 CAT filter is between $10-$12 direct from CAT. If anyone is interested in getting all their own items from CAT for the secondary alternator mount setup, I can provide just the bracket with all mounting holes predrilled & mounting bolts. This kit could be installed to the engine bay mount or the frame mount.

Thanks KEV. That may be an option for some.

Anyone have info on the Stanadyne FM100 set up? Prices? Reversible? Mount?

Can't seem to find too much on it.

Hello,

Fass approx. 589.00

Preporator approx. 750.00

Both contain a lift pump, individual water seperator and individual fuel filter. Both also supposedly remove entrained air?

Don't shoot the messenger! Please!

THANKS Bronco!!

No shots fired here! I am only trying to get the Money side of the story!

There is NO WAY I am gonna get into which one is better..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif.

The only thing I know is the more you filter ANY fluid the better it is. So I am gonna leave it at that. I have had a hard time differentiating between all of the filter set-ups and how much each one is. I know I am not going to get a set up that cost 100 to install but then the filters are 50 bucks each..(hypothetical numbers). But If I can get a good system for 200 with filters in the 15-20 range than that is better IMHO. Changing filters on a diesel is a shock to guy who has ran gassers all my life. The cost of the oil change and filters maybe cheap insurance but to a gasser it is something to get used to. I have went from 35 bucks to change oil and all filters to almost 100.

Hello all,

On another note about the Fass and Preporator. The claims about increased HP are not applicable to a high pressure common rail type system. They have been proven to increase power to a non-common rail non high pressure type system. The air can really throw off the timing in a system that has all of those long fuel injector supply tubes. A high pressure common rail system was designed with the idea of eliminating these timing issues in mind. Sorry guys no HP gain from fass or preporator on a high preesure common rail system in relation to injector timing. However, there could be a HP gain involved if you current system is starving for fuel. Just simply due to the lift pump.

Not to say there are not potential other benifits of these systems. Also you might want to due your homework on these 2 items. There are some subtle differences between the Fass and Preporator. Finally neither are ready for shipment. The Fass should be first, in about a week or two. The preporator will be second in a month or two. Neither will of had many Dmax road miles!Edited by: Bronco

Mike,
The Reliable Industries Website (http://www.reliableindustries.com/inv/stan/1_fm100.php) has some good info on Stanadyne FM100 products. I bought my FM100 30 micron pre-filter (http://community.webshots.com/album/77018086bLHHHC) from reliable and IIRC the cost was about $40 for the head and element including shipping. The FM100 is a nice system as it can be configured with a variety of options and different filter elements.
