: Troubles with secondary PRE/POST fuel filter setup at engine mount?

Ok guys, lets see how many people have a secondary pre/post fuel filter setup anywhere under the hood location & if any air problems exist. This could be any type of secondary setup at an engine mount or underhood location.

Too much vibration at that location....LOL

I have a RACOR 445R (R90S) fuel filter setup under the hood beside my airconditioning pump and above the power steering pump. Have had no problems and it has been there since December....................................Steve. ..

If there is anyone whom had problems at any underhood location that is now resolved & working, what was the problem & what did you do to resolve it?

I just voted "Yes at other underhood location and resolved." I have a Kennedy Megafilter mounted under the airbox post OEM. It's been on there since October and for over 3,000 miles now. I had no problems for a long time, then got a couple of "start and stalls" that required a few pumps on the primer to get refired. I installed a plastic sightglass extension on my filter vent that I found was loosening up and leaking due to temperature extremes. I tightened it once, stopped the issue for a month and then I got a "rash" of start and stall this week (three times in four days). I just disassembled the sightglass and reassembled it with a little RTV silicone sealant on the two compression fittings. They are DOT brass ones with steel inserts into the clear tube, but compression fittings are pressure sealers, not vacuum. With temperatures here in Ohio cycling between 5 and 35 the last few days, the plastic/brass junction was just flexing too much! Been firing right up and idling/running smoother since I did the RTV trick, so I'm being optimistic that the problem is solved. Will find out for certain over the next two weeks when I make a run home to Florida - will keep you posted.

Currently running the Cat head. In hand I have the Permacool filter head that will mate with the 1R-750 Cat filter. Over this weekend I will switch out and see if the flatter head design(less room for air pockets to accumulate) will make a difference.

My case hasn't been bad, only a stumble every two weeks or so these days. I'm thinking the Racor(which I've never heard an issue with) head design may play a part in air pockets forming.

More to come.

No problem in 17K with my engine mounted Racor. The mount needs to be ridged to avoid excess vibration. There is no more vibration on this filter than on the OEM. Most all large mobile and stationary diesel have filters mounted on the engine. This has also been well documented and I am not going to argue this point with anyone. I have as good a fuel report as anyone in the country period. A couple notes for those using this location, or any other for that matter, level the filter with the world not the engine. Make sure you install the vent in one of the discharge ports preferably the top one. You absolutely will not have an air issue with this location if all the fittings are tight and the filter is properly bled the first time. Later!
