I beleive thats what GM did when they were testing the Duramax back in the late 90's and early 2000, befor the GMT-800's came out. You would probably need to do the "HVY" 3" body lift that all the -800 HD's have, but other than that I dont see why it wouldnt work... You might have some computer difficulties and you might have to run a GMT-800 BCM or something...

I highly recomend buying a whole wrecked truck so you have all the wiring, under the hood junction box, speedo sensor wires, fuel sending unit wires, tps wiring with the fuel peddle ect. The wiring list goes on and on, its better to have it all and not need it or to not have it all and keep spending hundreds on sensors and wires that didn't come with that "complete motor". Good luck and keep us posted my 87 took about 6 or 7 months to get it running.

I saw an article in one of the hot rod mags that did a Dmax in a short bed 2wd half ton. They were building it for drag racing. I'll see what I can dig up. By the way I hope you have lots of patience because that is gonna take a ling time. Good luck!

yeah iknow that its gonna take some time but it will be something for me and my brother to work on, we are not planning on having it running in a month, maybe a year or so, we are gonna go ahead and do evrything we want to the motor and tranny before we stick it in

Have a look at the site appended below. This process was also highlighted in one of the truck magazines.

I believe you can still post links on this site to thedieselstop.com where they document the swap

I would love to see it when you got it done. That would be cool. I like that bodystyle better than the current one anyways. Like someone else said, check out the other diesel website where they put one in a reg cab 4x4 half ton 88-98 style truck.
