I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 LT, and at the front-most part of the OH cosole (right above the rear-view mirror) there appears to be a section for something. I can't find anything in the manual that would indicate what might could even go in there. Since it's an LT I'm supposing it has every option available, so does anybody know what that front section of the OH console is for?

In a Suburban they would have rear seat heater controls there.
If you ever get an edge/attitude you can buy a trippin mount and install your attitude there. It looks very sharp up there. www.socaldiesel.com

I wonder if any of you know if an after market computer is made that might fit in there nicely. Basically a display that can do what many others are doing today such as:
Avg mileage
Instand mileage
Distance to empty
trip odo (another one!!)
Temp inside/outside
Compass
Basically does the truck have all that it would to produce such information for a computer to display?

I doubt you will find anything like that.

Not anymore. PepBoys used to sell one back in the early 80s... you tied magnets to the drive shaft and installed a fuel flow meter. Never sold a lot of them, and by '84 Detroit was putting it into the dash on higher end cars... and people who could afford the unit were buying those cars.

Yeah, I thought an LT was a "higher end" truck. :iamwithst Anyway, I guess when all the fuel usage deal is going to give you is bad news, why beat yourself to death!!!-:t

I was thinking I would like to install a altimeter there. Can anyone tell me how that panel is removed, I haven't had the time to look at it yet. I was gona go buy a replacement panel first and that would tell me how it goes in.

I don't know if it will fit, but I saw this on another thread. It's called Scangauge. It does all of the stuff you're talking about, except for the compass and temp, plus you can clear and view trouble codes. It plugs into the OBD II port, even gets it's power from there. You maybe could modify the housing it comes in to fit.
