: Mystery code 32,33 fixed. Now Mystery 36
mitch1000 10-03-2005, 08:18 PM Having made several short and medium range trips without a code 32 or 33 I am cautiously optimistic that they were caused by bad battery terminal connections as discussed elswhere. However, immediatley following that correction I took a 90 mile trip with no problems. The next morning I start getting code 36, comes on and off just like the 32's and 33's did, let up on gas and it goes away etc, etc. It seems to occur only during the first trip after cold start. After a short trip, enough to start warming engine, if I restart, no codes. Today I tried letting the engine warm for a while before taking off and no code 36.
Is there something about a cold engine and code 36. I think code 36 has something to do with IP. Engine runs smooth and sounds great otherwise.
Thanks for any ideas.
Texas Diesel Guy 10-03-2005, 08:31 PM Code 36 is Fuel Solenoid Response Time too long, and yes thats inside the pump.
You changed the fuel filter already I assume, are you running fuel condition with lubricity additive? That will help. If you're running an additive now, let us know what your using.
mitch1000 10-03-2005, 09:01 PM Pump and filter were replaced not too long ago. Maybe 18 months, but not many miles. No addatives yet. What should I look for by name at Autozone or Napa?
Texas Diesel Guy 10-03-2005, 10:11 PM DON'T get STP, Kleen-Flo, Store Brand or anything that claims to get rid of water.
Good place to look is a truck stop, They usually Carry Power Service or Howe's, both are pretty good.
Best Place is your Local Diesel Service Dealer, or Fuel Shop, They will have Stanadyne, Racor or something else comparable.
mitch1000 10-08-2005, 03:44 PM Found some Power Service at truck stop. Filled tank there also & used the double dose of PS as suggested on bottle. Still getting 36 when cold but haven't got through much of the new tank of mix yet. Did notice better power at top end;60-70 mph better acceleration. Don't think that was just my imagination.
bowtie 10-08-2005, 06:44 PM I run the Stanadyne blue label and can tell the difference even in the MPG I get. I figure they make the pump they know what to run thru it.
DieselPro 10-08-2005, 09:32 PM No cure for a 36 code. Usually the death sentence for the injection pump.
knkreb 10-08-2005, 09:43 PM I don't doubt dieselpro's out look on a 36, but first eliminate all other possiblities. You don't *seem* to be a canidate for a pump yet......

18 months? Thats too long, even with low miles, at a minumum, pull it out just for visual inspection. If the truck has been sitting a lot, then water contamination is the biggest threat.

"Sometimes" when the armature starts to go there will be a little more power. Seems the longer response time holds the poppet valve in a little longer thus a little more fuel.

Just to be sure, your talking about the filter right?

Eliminate what other possibilities?
Checked records: the pump and filter are just one week shy of their first birthday with about 4,000 miles +/-, its my weekend vehicle. Should I hurry back down to Chevy Dealer and get on record of problem before the 1 year mark? Any chance of warranty?
William Hall 10-09-2005, 12:46 PM I had a 32,33 and 36. Vacuum pump fixed the 32 and 33. New PMD fixed the 36. Just a thought....
