Had the oil changed at the purchasing dealer. The oil they used is a Mobil 1 15w 50 Performance Driving Formula, API SL/CF and states that it exceeds API SL, SJ, CF. This is not the oil I requested. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
According to my the manual this is not the correct oil. I am not sure if the rating on the oil used exceeds the oil required in the manual. Can someone advise?

When people said dealers had little experience with the diesels I never realized it would be that little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the response. Thought I would make sure that I was not missing the boat before ripping them a new one. I have faxed them a copy of the manual and have requested a refund plus riembursment for my time (yea right).
I still can't believe that they would use the wrong oil!!!!! This is the same dealership that was adament about voiding the warranty for adding an additional fuel filter. Looks like I will have to hold hands or do it myself. I guess when the secondary filter is install I will have to make trip to Grand Rapids for any related warranty work.

That's why I always change my own engine/diff/axle oil.

Yup:
See my nightmare thread, update for today.
I'm on my way to the dealer in a few minutes to take them oil and a filter because they didn't know what to put in. This is the dealer that just finished fixing my motor for a bad injector.
Under warranty, and I'm supplying the oil and filter. I can hear them now: "Is Pennzoil OK?"
They had no clue.

Rick - It's nice that my dealer actually knows which oil to use, but I like doing it myself anyway.
I like your buck - here's one I got a few years back:

Already rearranging the shop to make room for the truck. Tried the garage, it's way too tight.

Nice dropper!!
I need a big whitetail. Still working on a whopper muley, but I'm thinking I better get started on the whitetail, cuz the muley is taking a while, though I'm having fun!

There have been other ones (related to this one I'm sure) seen in the area - (northern Idaho, mountains), but I haven't been able to find 'em yet.
And back to oil, what was GM thinking when they designed that dipstick?
Either my eyes suck, or the light has to be just right to read it accurately. I think I'll drill little holes in the end like i've seen others do.

Just ordered Amsoil 15w-40 syn. and filter. Have you used this before? I am going on 8k on mine, is this too early to use syn.?

This is the first time for me with Amsoil. The product is highly recommended so I thought I would give it a try. Will be using their oil filter also. Hope to extend the time between oil changes. I have read many posts and tech info for the use of synthetic oil and have concluded that 3k is sufficent with the dino before the switch. Mobil Delvac 1 seems to be used by quite a few on this forum too.
You can try a search for more info. Good luck!
