: Yet another injector question....

I've got over 100k on the 'burb with about 15mpg fuel economy. I'm not thrilled with 15mpg, but I can live with it. From what I've read, 100k is the time to replace your injectors. However, a few things are holding me back from buying injectors. 1) several people have posted 150k+ with original injectors and I'm thinking "if it ain't broke...." 2)A couple people have posted that thier injector pumps went within 2 weeks of replacing injectors  3) them things ain't cheap:cool:

Am I wise to leave them alone? Will I see improvements in the fuel economy dept if I do change them? Should new injectors increase stress on the injector pump?

Unless I miss my guess here, new injectors *may* have higher (but correct) opening pressures. If yours are worn, the pressures may be less. If your IP is weak, it may not be thrown over the line until you have the new injectors on. I don't think that new injectors will "kill" your IP, but it will just show quicker if it's worn or not.

I would say you need to check something. MY 2500 with 4.10's can consistently do better than 15 on the econ. With the 3.42's you should be getting close to 20 if not better. Try some cleaner first, may give an indication if you'll see any improvement or not.

220,350 miles so far original injectors and avg 17 city / 19.5 highway. However I used power service (white bottle) in every tank. Is that why the injectors have lasted so long? I don't know:confused: .

Same question in my head right now. With diesel now at $3 gallon, I will look at just about anything within reason to improve my mileage. My truck is running GREAT, so I don't know if new injectors would help or not. I'm off to FAQ's to look at injector troubleshooting.
