What does it feel or sound like when the DMF is beginning to go bad?
I've noticed recently that when pushing in the clutch I get a quick rattle. Today after a long haul back from Paragon AP in PA, I noticed that when in neutral and letting out the clutch it rattles until the pedal is all the way out.
Thanks

Welcome to the P.O.S. DMF club!! I can tell you from experiance...as I am on number 3 and need number 4...forget about the factory DMF. That's is unless you have time for the dealer to keep your truck every 6 months or so! Bite the bullet and buy an high quality aftermarket kit...Single Mass Flywheel and clutch in either single or dual disc! Coming soon!! Keep your eyes posted to the ZF forums for further details!

When the dealer replaces the flywheel, do they replace the disk and throughout bearing as well? Is it recommended? Truck has 78K on it.

If they are doing it under warranty make them replace everything. Do not allow them to reuse any parts as long as they are in there they should replace it all. Most good dealers operate under these rules...but not all, if yours doesn't find a new one. My dealer has put all new parts in each time.

Dealer FINALLY replaced my flywheel. First they mis-diagnosed it and said I needed a throwout bearing at a cost of $1100. to replace. After beating them with the TSB they agreed that the flywheel was a problem. Next they came back and said the VIN number did not fall withing the scope of the TSB. I found this difficult to believe, since this is a 2002 LB7/ZF6. The TSB states from 2001 to 2005, inclusive. I'm not sure when 2002 fell out of that range. Once they got my truck down there it sat for 10 days without being touched, and this was after I received notice that the parts were in. Fortunately GM picked up the rental tab for the 15 days they had it. I'm not too impressed with this dealer at the moment, and they are one of the largest and supposedly the best in Western MA.
