Got my recall notice in the mail today, have until Sept 06 to get the new improved version installed. Notice doesn't give a part no. so don't know if its the 2nd or 3rd generation filter.

Neither does the dealerships. They put the wrong one on my truck.....just my luck I guess.

They have talked about this problem before, I know they have a part number listed and pics of the correct filter.

Good Luck

Bill, I usually change my own filters. Several of the guys went right out to get it done but ended up getting the old new filters put on instead of the new new ones. I figured I would wait a couple of months for them to use up their old stock before I have them replace mine. I'm sure the old new ones are fine and still plan on using the ones I have in the garage. But if I'm getting one from the dealer it might as well be the latest. You probably saw it but I think it is in the TSB section it showed that the newest filter was actually what they are suppose to install....Bill

I just went and had mine done on Tuesday, Sept 27th. Everything went well. Although, when I got back to work I was checking under the hood and found an O ring down on the frame rail below the filter. I called the dealer and they said that if it was the O ring off of the new filter, it would have been spilling diesel on the drive home. I've checked it a couple more times since then and everything seems ok.

Does that diagnosis sound correct to everybody else?

Nope, wrong diagnosis. It's probably the old filter's o-ring. If it was the o-ring off the new filter, you would be stalling and have to reprime (or attempt and fail to reprime) because the filter head is under *vacuum* (like the service writer's head when it comes to knowlege of a DMax) not pressure. If you haven't had any prime or stall issues, you should be okay.

Did they put the RIGHT filter on (3rd generation)?

Take a look at my link in my above post.

Yes, it was the correct filter they installed. I haven't had any issues with it, so it must have been the O ring off of the old filter.
