I currently drive a 94 Ford Probe Gt. I'm 20 years old and i was all into the import scene since i was 16. My friend (1bad01) recently bought a lifted 01 dmax and it looks sweet. Now i want a diesel. But, I dont think i can afford a new 30 some thousand dollar truck. I definately need a 4x4 but i dont know what to do. I also looked at the fords and dodge diesels too and the older chevy 6.5. I'm just looking for advice from some other people on what i should do in this situation because i really need something thats 4x4.

That's a tall order, 20 years old...........wish I was again, anyway

See if you can swing a payment on a used with a cosigner...

Interest rates are fairly low.........maybe a buyers market ???

Good Luck to you, hope you get your truck you want.

If you have some money to put down, or a trade in and find a used 01 Duramax for around 22-27K you should be able to get a 5 year loan and have payments around 400-450 or so. You have to figure insurance will be a little more also than your car. Good luck.

I am only 18 and going to college, I am working after school the make my truck payment, insurance, fuel, and any left for high perf. goodies. I have also paid every dime of my truck, the only thing my parents did was co-sign for the loan. Money is tight but I am making a 475 payment. You just have to watch where you spend your meoney. I also have my sled, I have paid for it thankfully, but it is probably going to get the boot in favor of a new tranny for the truck!

Yeah, parents co-signed for the truck for me also, but the 10 sec Chevelle was bought and paid for as I went.

Wow there are more of us young folks here than I thought. I'm 22 and on my third new truck in four years, my folks co-signed for the first and second trucks but I didn't need it for this one, and I've paid for it all by myself as well. Between my truck, my van, and my motorcycle, I don't get to play with much of my paychecks anymore but it'll all be over soon.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Just be careful not to bite off more than you can chew and you'll do fine.

I'm in your boat Camstyn. I am 23 and on my third new truck in five years.Bought my first right after I turned 18. It was a 99 F-250 v-10 bought in 98. Traded for a 2000 PSD in late 99 when I was 19. Now I have my D-max, which I bought last March. Parents co-signed on the first 2, but I paid every dime on them, and I didn't need a co-signer this time. Also have a motorcycle, and fourwheeler.

lifted_01,

It all depends on how much you are willing to work to get what you want. Hard-a$$ work can be found everywhere because a lot of people don't want to do it. When I was in college, I averaged probably 3-4 hours sleep a night during the week due to three jobs on top of studies. I had a Harley, a 6.5 second(1/8 mile) '57 Chevy, and two pickups at the time. Find a job, any job, and work hard at it. Employers are impressed by hard work the majority of the time and you will be rewarded for that. I carried bricks and blocks for masons when I was 13-18 and loved it. It would wear you out, but it paid well and you got paid for working out. I trained with boxers, unloaded trucks, worked in auto repair shops, and many other things to make a buck. I am not now, nor have I ever been "wealthy", but I make a comfortable living and I still work hard, but I enjoy it.

You probably won't like my advice, but here is what you *should* do.

1. Always pay cash for vehicles. You never want to pay interest on anything that goes down in value.

2. Save and invest 50% of your take home pay. Within 8-10 years your investments will return more annually than your income. Reward yourself with a new truck then and look forward to retiring (or being able to retire) in your 40's.

You have your whole life ahead of you, whether or not you live it debt free or as a wage slave is up to you.
