Just installed my Nicktane yesterday and now my check engine light came on. Called Onstar and they said 2 codes came up...P0116 & P0181. How can I find out what these codes are???

I don't know if it has anything to do with the Nicktane.....the truck seems to be running fine!!.....no smoke, no loss of power, no stumbling!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Thanks Mackin,

I did a search and it sounds like this has happened to a few people when plugging in at night. Any suggestions as to what to do if anything??

Where did you find the code definitions?

A few cycles of ignition switch will shut the light off ,but a Predator or Tech II or Quad will clear them off the ECM ....

Otherwise I hear Autozone will read and clear if you ask and show up with light on in cluster ...

Unplug before starting perhaps ...

I have a full set of Helm's Manuals ,but when I'm lazy and just want to know what they are, I go here (http://www.autotap.com/codes.asp)...

I've gotta say that GM's dealerships are in sad shape!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

I stopped by my dealership today and explained the problem with my check engine light! I told him what the codes were and even had to explain what they mean't!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif I asked if I should give it a few days for the light to go out, or if they can reset it....Their response was, "Well, you seem to know more about the engine than us, we really haven't worked on them much....I guess wait a few days, and if the light doesn't go out, then bring it in and we'll see what we can do!"

My cousin also works as a service consultant at another GMC dealership and he said he's not too familiar with the Dmax either. He said they have one tech that can work on them but that they have only had 1 or 2 ever come in for service (both injector problems). He too looks at me with a blank stare when I tell him about some of the things I've learned from this site!! (i.e. high idle, low fluid in rear diff., and now my check engine light)

What baffles me is that if you walk into any GMC or Chevy showroom, they will be the first to tell you that the D-max is in the most demand right now, and that they are hard to find on anyones lot (which is true, I had a hard time finding one myself) But then, you walk into a service dept., and you're lucky if you can find one guy in there that has ANY training or experience with these motors at all!!!......and if it wasn't for GM MAKING the dealership train at least ONE person on the Dmax before selling it, you probably wouldn't have anyone at ALL knowing what the motor even LOOKS LIKE!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

IMHO....it's a sad situation!! Doesn't GM see that this is a direct reflection on them??? Maybe most of us would not get as upset when we had problems with our trucks if we had confidence in our service departments. Right now, the dealership is the LAST place I ever want to take my truck if I have a problem!! To me it seems as if they don't know their head from their $%#!!!!!!!<IMG onMouseOver="this.style.cursor='hand'" onMouseOut="this.style.cursor=''" alt='Click on image to open in new window' onClick="window.open('smileys/Ang

Service at the dealers is a JOKE!

Before my 14 day xmas trip I brought my truck into the dealer to have a real bad noise diagnosed and fixed. They parked it in the back for 3 days and never looked at it.

I had to take the trip with a broken truck (well I fixed it myself).

Any way I can get my hands on the bulletin to show the dealer?? My dealer is not too swift, and probably doesn't know what a bulletin ishttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif. Unless I go in there and tell them exactly what they have to do, they will just look at me with that dumbfounded stare!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif

I have had the same experience here in the east with the dealer not knowing much about the truck. When I first installed the boost guage the mechanic couldn't tell me which was the wastegate hose. I just got my truck back yesturday for engine codes I have had for almost 2 months. Waited on a relay for a month and a half and the truck coded again the next day. "Sorry no open appointments for 2 weeks". The guy started to tell me the codes had to do with bad injectors and the test alone would take 10 hours. Turns out it was the maxi fuse that I told him it would be. I found this out from reading this and the other forum. Enough venting. Try the Chevy site for the bulletin,I think thats where I saw them listed. As far as the reading of the codes I just got a predator for diagnostics only,it works well.

Well, it's been 3 days since the light first came on. The ignition must have cycled at least a dozen times by now and the light is still on!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Guess I'll have to go to the dealer with it to have the codes cleared!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

You think bringing in a bulletin is bad? I had Allison call my dealer and tell them they were barking up the wrong tree on my tranny. You should have seen the guys face when he asked me who I knew. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif I got my truck back quicker and was much more confident it was fixed. He did dump my transynd though. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
