: Dmax vs 6.0 psd
1bad01 02-01-2004, 01:35 AM (Just looking for opinions here....... because I hate losing)..............A friend of mine just got an 03 6.0 psd and is planning on putting a 100 (or so) horse chip in it and then wants to race me. His truck is also lifted with 35's. and is a cc s/b 4x4. Do I have enough, or should I upgrade? All my mods are posted in my sig.
Max Power 02-01-2004, 01:40 AM Very, very close. If you want to beat him comfortably, you better upgrade.
He has the advantage of starting with more hp before the upgrade and I believe they can order with different gear ratios so he might have lower gearing then you. That would be an advantage with 35" tires.
sdaver 02-01-2004, 01:47 AM that vvt is wicked.....you need some help

Yep, I drove my dad's today and it is amazing how much more responsive it is then our trucks. We haven't raced yet, but to be honest I am a little bit scared to. He has the Edge box in his. Seat of the pants I would say his is faster but no hard evidence. On a side note, it stalled on me a couple times at read lights. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
I have edge+attitude.
heartbeatcanada 02-01-2004, 08:04 AM 1bad01- don't race him for ownership, unless your lookin for a new truck. Edge with attitude, should have you in the winners circle, and in line for a tranny.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

What chip is he running ??
Simple ....
When your lined up have passenger window down ....
Look over at friend just before some one drops the flag ...
Say :
"Hey friend ,is your truck excited for the race ,or is that a puddle of oil I see under your truck right now coming out of your bellhousing " ??
Floor your truck at completition ,and your in the winners circle !!!!!

2MuchFun 02-01-2004, 11:59 AM I had that truck! He will beat you.
If you take a stock 6.0 and a DMAX with juice on level 1, it would be a close race, but I think the 6.0 would still edge out
(Thinking to myself; Why do guys do lifts with big tires and want to drag race these 7K trucks???)
rickles04 02-01-2004, 12:08 PM hmmm...... stock: close race....when i bought mine i brought the ford to the gmc place and drove both one after the other to see which one had more power....couldnt tell any noticable diff other than the ford on the inside was a ter....
1bad01 02-01-2004, 12:45 PM 2MuchFun.......What do you think would be more embarassing, having a Mustang GT and losing to a gigantic LIFTED 4wd, or a stock looking one.................Besides another friend of mine has a non lifted duramax with the 110 BD chip and only beats me by a fender........and he still has the 245's on...........Again, what lookes cooler, his "little" truck running 15.2's or my "big" truck running 15.3's.........nuf said.
1bad01 02-01-2004, 12:52 PM sdaver- what is a vvt? Mac- he hasnt decide on a chip yet
Max Power 02-01-2004, 12:57 PM variable vane turbo
2MuchFun 02-01-2004, 12:57 PM VVT = Variable Vane Turbo. It is sweet.
As far as racing the big trucks, thats cool. Whatever floats your boat. But If I were into 1/4 mile, I would be using a fast car, not a truck meant for 4x4ing and working. But again, personal choice is what makes the world go round http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
2MuchFun 02-01-2004, 01:01 PM BTW, Im not on the PSD bandwagon at all, I LOVE my Chevy much more than I ever liked the Ford overall, but I had the 6.0L for 10 months and all I ever did was 4" cat-back. I've had the Dmax for over a month now and just to be honest, the 6.0l was very noticeably quicker. The VVT and the Torqshift are both amazing mechanical creations. But still, I'll take my Chevy/Dmax everyday over the Ford and just throw on the Juice to wake her up http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif
1bad01 02-01-2004, 01:12 PM 2MuchFun.......BTW, I also have a 10 sec big block Chevelle that I do most of my drag racing with..........The Chevelle is definetly a more exciting ride, but to be honest, the truck gets way more attention than than the Chevelle when I run it.
JRmac 02-01-2004, 01:20 PM 1bad01:.....:Haul the 10sec. Chevelle, Get there, Un-hook, & race both!!!!!
NOW THATS WHAT I'M TALK'N ABOUT!!!!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: JRmac

Morse 02-05-2004, 10:47 PM Racing with the 39's are a blast.. 60' times aren't the best (no 4x4 launch), though she's been running consistant low 14's... I too have a couple camaros (one with a stroker, one with a 502), though it's unexpected for a diesel truck to outrun the little cars.. =)
Morse 02-05-2004, 11:12 PM By the way, I got my a** kicked by a new 6.0 at the dragstrip.. It was rediculous... He had stock exhaust with no muffler and the edge attitude... This longbed, crewcab, 4x4 base worktruck went 13.79... He backed it up with two 13.9 passes.. Yes I even looked his truck over... I did laugh a little though, his back glass said "Lawn enforcement".... Funny stuff.. My truck is getting lowered six inches and a set of 33's Monday for warranty purposes (SUCKS).. I'm hoping this lowered stance will atleast make me faster...
I'll bet the difference was in the tire size. Our Attitude makes a little more HP than theirs, but a 39" tire would really slow it down. I am curiuos as to what you run with the 33".
Morse 02-06-2004, 12:05 AM I'm anxious to see as well...
turbo lcc 02-06-2004, 12:10 AM Do the new LLY motors get the new VVT ???
Yes, but I'm not sure what the total power output difference will be. I was told by a diesel engineer that VVT was designed primarily for EGR compatability. However, as John kennedy pointed out to me, the LLY VVT is larger than the LB7 turbo. I guess it depends on whether the VVT turbo will produce more total boost than the LB7 turbo.
Regadless, a VVT seems to provide better low-end throttle response than a wastegated turbo. It will be interesting to see what Edge comes up with for the LLY.
2MuchFun 02-06-2004, 11:06 AM The VVT on the 6.0L definately has less lag off the line.
I never had gauges on my 6.0L, but if I recall from TDS, the max. boost is 26 lbs. and we're at 25 so...
Kartattack 02-06-2004, 06:36 PM 2MuchFun:
Less lag!? The two 6.0 Powerstrokes I test drove had so much lag I almost got hit the first time! I was pushing and pushing on the go pedal and nothing much was happening. When they finally took off, they were quick, but they lagged like my butt in a wind sprint. Now I have since heard there was a flash to fix that, but pure stock they sucked!
The DMax has much less lag. That was one big reason I bought the truck I have over a Ford.

That likely wasn't turbo lag but dead peddal.
2MuchFun 02-06-2004, 09:49 PM Definately right Max.
Kart, I know what your saying is true, cuz I experienced that also ~Hence my truck was a buyback. But thats a sick truck. When the 6.0L WAS running right, its pretty impressive.
(I hate saying this, but its true http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif)
Kartattack 02-06-2004, 10:16 PM Both of those were test drives of brand new '03 trucks off the lot! Scared the crap out of me.
OK guys, enlighten me: what is "dead pedal" versus "turbo lag?"
2MuchFun 02-07-2004, 12:55 AM Dead pedal was an issue with the fly by wire system. The actuator wasnt working right or something.
There was actually a time when my truck -at a red light- would not respond at all to the go pedal! Another time, I was going down the road, holding about 45, when all the sudden the truck started surging as if I were stomping the pedal off and on! Scared the crap out of me. This was all before I even had 200 miles on the truckhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Needless to say, I sure am glad that truck went away and I got my Chebby!
Kartattack 02-07-2004, 12:54 PM Man, I bet that was scary! Whatever it was, it really killed the deal for me. That and the fact that a Ford interior is a dog unless you get the Lariat and I didn't want leather.
2MuchFun 02-07-2004, 04:58 PM I dont want to keep ripping on Ford cuz I hate when they do it to us... BUT.... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
I had the Lariat. I used Meguires Leather lotion about 8-10 times in the 11 months that I had the truck. And ya know what? The outer edge of the drivers seat bottom was already getting cracking in the finish of the leather! The ONLY leather for has thats any good is in the King Ranch. Now Thats some sweeet leather.
But even compared to the KR, the Chevy/GMC interior is so much better! ~There's no denying that we have the best interiors of the big three http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
Kartattack 02-07-2004, 08:33 PM I'll take your word for the Dodge interior. I've owned two Dodges (one car, one truck) and it will be pretty damn chilly in hades before I'll buy another one.
