: What is the best oil to use in the Ally?
Redrock 09-29-2005, 06:16 PM I've got 15,000 miles on her and need to change the oil and filter.
What is the best posible oil to use?
I need to get buy untill I can aford trany upgrades.
Is thier a oil that can handle the extra power and towing better?
I normally run the 70hp tune on the quadzilla but pull in the 90hp with 6500lbs sled trailer in the winter. (get better mpg)
I have stacked with the edge for a couple of truck pulls. Never limped her yet, but trying not to. Allways back off in 5th.
Thanks for the help.

Unless your going to do extended drains I would use conventional Dex III.I'm running Mobil
RichLube 09-29-2005, 06:32 PM Amsoil synthetic ATF or Amsoil Torque Drive.

That was good Eric.):h
dmaxalliTech 09-30-2005, 08:22 AM ok, serious now...
If you stay up on the maint of it, plain o dex III will be fine.
You can go to a synthetic if you wish, lots of choices on that.
Redrock 09-30-2005, 08:52 AM Dose one oil have more grab than the other.
I asume the synthetics run cooler?
If I switch the oil can I just drain the pan and fill it? Or do I need to do a flush so all of the oil is the same?

I used mobil 1 synthetic but as Eric stated its probably not necessary if you do it often. Mobil 1 states that it is compatible with Dex 3 but I chose to flush out the old and start fresh as at the same time I also installed the deep pan kit and Mike L's. cooler. If you want/need them Eric (www.gmdieseltech.com) has the deep pans and suction filters etc. If you tow, Mikes cooler works even better then promised. Post 14 (by enigma) in the above thread (02/02/2005) shows the proceedure to flush the trans if you choose to do so.......Bill
Idle_Chatter 09-30-2005, 01:33 PM I can't believe no one has mentioned Transynd by now! Castrol Transynd is the synthetic recommened by Allison for severe duty and long change intervals. Early on, it was the "one and only" synthetic to use and everyone was jumping to change over to Transynd and deep pans. I've been using Amsoil Universal synthetic ATF in my tranny and transfer case for over 100,000 miles now. It's been good for me. Amsoil Torque Drive was released after I had been running the Universal for some time and I just changed to Universal again last time without a flush. Some high-performance and race-oriented owners complained of slip with the Universal. I'm a daily driver and light towing driver, so I've never had a problem with the Universal. My fluid has always been clear and red on changeout and my tranny temps run low, even pulling in high heat and headwind like I just did a couple of weeks ago pulling my 6x6x12 box trailer 3500 miles from eastern Idaho to San Antonio and back.
02 Durabeast 09-30-2005, 07:56 PM I have been using the ALLy Transend in mine since new I like it!
rcpd34 10-01-2005, 11:49 AM Can anyone reccomend a good place to get the Castrol Transynd and a Ally filter for a fair price? I'd rather buy it from a board member if I can.
Idle_Chatter 10-01-2005, 12:44 PM As far as I know, no board member merchants carry Transynd (please correct me if I'm mistaken!) It's pricey, but the best reported prices have come from Allison dealers, go to Allison.com and they have a dealer locator. I've only purchased spin-ons and a magnet, DO NOT go to a GM/Chevy dealer for Allison parts!!! I bought some filters and the magnet at great savings from an Allison dealer in Maryland when I was there. I've bought several filters from Greg Landuyt - www.lubespecialist.com he's an Amsoil dealer, so he won't have the Transynd.
dmaxalliTech 10-01-2005, 02:12 PM I carry the Transynd, but it can be pricey to ship large quanities of it.
I have never used it, but I have had more then one customer use the Amsoil Torque Drive fluid and go 100's of thousands of miles. Some that have limped the trans had switched over to the T/D and found they were unable to limp it with the same circumstances any more.....Not endorsing it, but giving my opinions. Mike Tomac has over 75 hooks this season on his truck, Trans has not been out since early spring and he is running Mobil 1 in his.
azcrf450 10-02-2005, 07:11 PM How many miles on my truck before I can switch to synthetic? I have 8500

Care to give me a quote for Transynd to 20850? I only need enough to do my Ally once for now.
Thanks!
dmaxalliTech 10-03-2005, 08:01 AM UPS calulates about 20.00 for a bucket. They like to tack on a surcharge of having to use the handle or something stupid usually.
